Not all vegetarians are vegans, nor are all Islams terrorists. As someone who has Muslim coworkers, I take great offense to what you're implying here.
I don't think you're equating all Muslims = terrorists, but just that your comment has that connotation, intended or not.
That was not my intention at all. Sorry if it came off differently than intended. I was merely illustrating that the most devoted to sacrificing themselves for 'holy war' aren't necessarily thinking things through.
Fair enough. I'm sorry if I implied your comment was hateful.
It just strikes a nerve. I have Muslim employees and I've seen people give them a hard time for their beliefs.

It is very encouraging to me to see a mostly civil discussion of these issues, including patience and willingness to listen and understand other thoughts. And I think that's where we need to be as a society to move forward. If we listen to each other and talk about things, we can actually learn so much more from each other, as opposed to just arguing about who is right and who is wrong. The more we are able to do this, the more perspectives you get to see about particular issues, and it helps us understand other motivations and actually get somewhere.
Thanks! Well, I thought I covered my bases pretty well. I did state ...
"Some groups (especially extremists within these groups)" - Should illustrate that I don't even close to believe all Muslims are extremists.
"We should not have to change our entire culture to accommodate their ways -- a little change is okay" - Should illustrate how I feel towards kosher meats.
And "Gotta give power to their gods" was meant as a general statement on how we tend to pander, not specifically meant for Islam.
Yeah, as people found out what was involved with Dhabīḥah, there were concerns and groups started to rule that the animals should be stunned first before performing the ritualistic killing. It's interesting that we want diversity, but supporting Halal means that only followers of Islam are allowed to have that job to slaughter the animals, (but it is allowed if for Sunnis). They still must pray to Allah as they perform the ritual sacrifice though. Gotta give power to their gods. All this work though, and explosive vests are made from nitroglycerides ... made from animal fat ... probably from non-Halal sources. Uh oh
Do you have a similar objection to Kosher foods?
I grew up in a small town in the north here.. Big lebanese community and basically no halal food. There is hardly any actual difference from kosher except if you are super picky the actual religion of the individual doing the ritual.. Many just subsituted kosher for halal since nothing was labelled halal.. Now I wonder if that still flies up north or if everyone is all upity about it now.

I think this is how it should be, namely to make due with what is available.
As a white person living in Asia, I have suddenly become a minority. From a religious standpoint, whether I choose to represent myself as a Catholic, or broader as a Christian, I am also a minority here. In the previous church I attended, aside from the priest, I was the only white person there - talk about being a double minority (everyone else in the churh were from the Philippines, so I was a minority group within a minority group in Taiwan).
I definitely have had people prejudiced towards me, both in good and bad ways, and on more than one occassion people have acted like I was deaf, dumb, or blind, despite the fact that my Chinese language ability is just fine. I don't demand to see white folks on cosmetic packages, or in TV shows, and it is something I really don't think much about at all, and as for stereotypes, I often hear the McDonalds one, but then I surprise everyone and eat some pig blood cake or chicken feet or something and everyone can add that story to their previous thoughts, to perhaps build a somewhat truer picture of my group of people.
To take forced PC integration a bit futher, since I suffer from Psoriasis, and at times have had my hands cracked so bad I couldn't even clap my hands or play piano or things like that, I think we should start making an effort to depict children with bad psoriasis on their hands in books, so that these children can find someone to relate to, especially if the teacher demands them to sing and act out with "If You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands". I mean why not, why not include a minority group like this?
And this leads to why I take issue with this whole process of forced inclusion via movies and books, and things like that, and the person who mentioned a movie with five folks from different diverse cultures (yet all being white) also points out another fine example. People should learn to embrace their similarities and their differences, and IMO just talking with folks that come from different backgrounds than you do, whether ethnic, racial, cultural, economic, you can learn a lot about acceptance of others.
With that said, I don't mind people poking fun at my ethnic group or background, as long as it is in good humor. Some of the things people complain about, I feel the just need to lighten up about.
You guys are saying stuff isn't that "old" but if it is over 4 years old then it is old in terms of modern TV/movies. Look at how much everything has changed in the last 4 years. We might all be ok with these things, but society isn't anymore.
Even if what you're saying here is true (it's not, BTW) your examples of How I Met Your Mother and Tropic Thunder are pretty stupid. Either one of those projects could be made today.
You act like we live in some sterile, boring world where creativity and humor are stomped out by liberal sensibilities and overly sensitive social media crusaders. Do those types of people exist? Sure, but they're viewed as what they are, a vocal minority.
All I know is, 2016 rolled around and I felt like frickin' Rip van Winkle or something. The world has completely lost its mind. In response, I'm hiding in video games because I haven't the faintest clue how I could actually make a difference, there are simply too many crazy people.
The #1 craziest thing to me is how many people are equating words with violence. That's really, really, really dangerous and disturbing. Then trying to argue this with some very intelligent people I know who believe it as religiously as the 9/11 suicide attackers believed in Allah, and...I just want to give up.
I mean to believe that you have to basically eradicate the notion that individuals should take care of their own problems, stand up for themselves, and carry the cross of their own problems and existence. And once you've eradicated that notion, SOMEBODY has to step in and solve problems, and who's that going to be? The government, which is composed of the same fucked up idiots that compose society, only they aren't acting in anybody's best interest most of the time. End result, every single time this is tried, is genocide.
The Western world has totally lost its way, and seems to be hopelessly fractured. I fear that the future belongs to much more consistent and homogenous peoples. Hopefully long term, sanity will win out again...
As a writer, I'm not particularly worried. I've read hundreds of reviews on Goodreads and Amazon, and I've seen everything from the overly protective mother who wouldn't let her ten year old daugher read Judy Blume's Blubber because the protagonist uses the word "bitch" exactly one time to the overly protective mother who wouldn't let her teenage daughter read Judy Blume's Forever because its teenage protagonists have an active sex life. But as you probably already knew, those reviews didn't stop Blume from becoming one of the most renowned young adult authors of all time.
There is no denying that "political correctness" is getting worse; I'm seeing more and more SJW terms like "microaggressions" pop-up in reviews, and Zeus knows how many reviews were the reviewer chastises the author for not being diverse enough...even if said diversity would be unrealistic for the setting or time period. In fact, you might have seen the articles (Jezebel has a particularly scathing one) were Nicholas Sparks was basically labeled a racist because all his protagonists are white (fortunately, Sparks's unofficial response to the keyboard warriors was that he isn't changing his formula for anyone, as proven by his last book, which featured, you guessed it, white protagonists).
But as Budweiser learned when they created a series of commercials starring Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen in an attempt to pander to feminists, and Marvel learned when they started creating comics that tackled social justice issues—pandering to those groups wasn't paying the bills, and instead alienated their loyal customers.
I could look at any of my unfinished novels or short stories and would be guaranteed to find at least one thing in each of them that someone would find offensive. For instance, the majority of my stories take place in a fictionalized version of my community—a predominantly white area (in fact, I even have a character bring this up in one of my novels; he basically makes fun of the fact that he believes that all the ethnic restaurants were built next to each other so that people passing through would see the layout and presume that the town was a melting pot of diversity, even though that couldn't be farther from the truth).
However, I've never had the slightest intention of giving into the P.C. Police or SJWs, and that belief has only gotten stronger from reading the various articles were those groups seem to go out of their way to find something to be offended by.
Also power rangers. Black ranger=black guy, yellow ranger = asian girl, would never happen today. At least not both in the same group of rangers
In the CGI-clusterfuck of a movie (that only exists to sell toys), Zach is white, Billy is black and has autism, and Trini is Hispanic and questioning her sexuality.
I'm legitamtely surprised they stopped there and didn't make one of the characters non-binary, gender queer, gray gender, gender fluid, or any of those other Tumblr terms I don't believe in.
Then again, there are multiple sequels in the works...

I noticed that. It added absolutely nothing to the movie.
Call me old fashioned, but I really don't care what the race or sexuality of the characters are unless there is a specific plot point where it's relevant.

Do you have a similar objection to Kosher foods?
I generally disagree with ritualistic sacrifices for mass food consumption.
Ritual slaughter isn't the same thing as ritual sacrifice, btw...

Depends on the thoughts of the person performing the ritual.

I think you are incorrect and that the two terms mean fairly specific things.
