  • Pretty sure my neighborhood will be up there. East Boston MA where i grew up is basically one giant airport. Planes get so low near my house, that friends from other areas would actually get scared because they said they never seen planes fly that low before near houses. Same with the sound.

Honestly i got so used to blocking it out, i never even noticed.

Edit- I zoomed in, and my house is not even in a red area, it is like hot pink lol
  • After zooming in on my house, I'm not sure how accurate this is, as it shows nothing for me and I get some road and aviation noise.
  • That was the most interesting thing I've seen today! Thank you for sharing. The ones that stood out the most were Chicago and NYC I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
  • It looks like airports and highways are loud. Not surprised.
  • We get a lot of loud engines in the sticks. 1 car sounds like 50.

I guess it's cool or something?

Every time I hear a motorcycle rev their engine super loud I ask myself "but why?".
  • When visited Chicago I was unaware that bars are open till 4am. I stayed in a hotel downtown and there was constant yelling, screaming, and sirens going off. Seemed like a very noisy place.

Yeah, I don't understand it. I don't want to hear your bike.

I live in a peaceful residential neighborhood just off of downtown (it's a very small town, so not that glamorous) and we have a few muffler-challenged folks who enjoy racing on our street... at 2 am... It's gotten better, somewhat.

  • It wouldn't load for me, I'm sure it's because of the lack of memory on my computer, but after spending 4 days in San Diego I'd bet that one is at least moderate. You can even hear airplanes in the CU Podcast from time to time.
  • If you've ever ridden a Harley and revved the shit out of the engine, you'd probably understand. Yeah it's dumb, but shit, it's a bunch of past their prime dudes in their 50's trying to relive their younger years.

Same but I often attribute it to the fact that they may very well have a tiny penis.
  • Sweet, it's white where I live, no noise!

Not surprising, most are near airports.

I love how the deep red lines basically align exactly with the runways, since it's all going to be departure noise.

I was very pleased, last weekend, when I encountered a group of four guys on Harleys and they ALL had stock pipes AND behaved politely with their throttles.

People with intentionally loud pipes are total dickheads.

Exactly. My dad thinks that revving the hell out of his Harley engine is the same as doing 50 effortless pushups at the beach in front of a gang of hotties. Just let the old man have his little thing, it's all he's got lol.

I especially hate it when I am at a gas station and two or three of them are sitting outside. They have to make sure I can hear them from 4 feet away.

Anyway, I see folks with quiet pipes every now-and-again and I knida want to give them a medal, or at least buy them a beer.

  • I like noise, I hate silence.....Even if people are loud in the apartment beside me I am like sweet, especially when I am trying to sleep, I like a little noise.

The worst is when they say, "Loud Pipes Save Lives". Umm...NO! Loud pipes make it HARDER for YOU to hear my car next to you! Also, you can only hear pipe noise from behind the bike you idiot!

  • Speak of the devil, last night around 10pm, I hear one of the local trucks.

Judging by the noise, he was accelerating way too fast for a residential street. This part of town tends to house middle class families and it shuts down by 9 or so. I'm sure the various parents appreciated that.

I do too. There's a difference between a nice, low, constant, background noise and a sharp, piercing, "Holy sh*t, hit the deck!" kinda noise.

It's why I find the noise of the city better than the noise of the sticks.

I mean within reason of course, if someone is boomin gangsta beats all day and night I would get annoyed simply because I don't wanna hear that shit.

But once in awhile if someone wants to have a party or whatever I don't care, I can't stand when people choose to live in an apartment then complain about noise.

No noise just seems creepy to me... I think having some noise is a mental connection to the outside world? I don't know.

But yeah, I love listening to the train when it comes through and the highway noise when I'm out for a walk.

As far as apartments go, I agree so long as the noise is within reason. It's common courtesy. I never had a problem except when the neighbors decided to air their dirty laundry at 2 am (and the umm... reconciliation process at 2pm). I didn't complain though, too much freakin' work.
