When people talk about the "Big 7" aren't they really talking about price? Those are the games that many collectors never get, simply because they're too expensive.
absolutely, because chance of finding that stuff cib in the wild is next to nil.
To add to the price vs rarity aspect -- if we were talking about the "Big 10" for rarity, that list would look mighty different. For example, HES Vindicators and Pipemania are rarer than SE. Mah-jong... Rodland... Phantom Air Mission! Most of the Big 10 wouldn't be on the list if we were talking rarity.
depends on how you look at it. all those games you mention are pal and I think everyone was assuming ntsc in the big seven list.
but yeah the list would look different. I can't imagine a cib canadian dkjr math is an easy find and that's ntsc (although you could say its a variant and therefore argue it shouldn't be on the list I guess).
Interesting... I've never thought about the big 7 in terms of price - only rarity, and generally the thought of whether the item is loose or CIB hasn't really entered the equation. If we're going to drill right down to specifics, here's how I'd rank them:
Rarest NTSC CIB:
1.Stadium Events
2.Myriad 6 in 1
3.Peek-a-boo Poker
4.Hot Slots
5.Bubble Bath Babes
6.Caltron 6-in-1
7.Cheetahmen II
8.Athletic World (non-1)
9.Flintstones: Surprise...
10.Chubby Cherub
Obviously, if you were strictly going by price, you'd want to rank them quite differently. Another thing to note is that some of these appear more often others because the rarity is widely known. How many people outside of our little bubble know about Chubby's box? Not many I gather, or it would be appearing on eBay at least as often as F2's.

same could be said of athletic world. I think its too early to tell on either of those games. I think 1-6 are pretty much indisputable but 7-10 could be argued all day.
If you're throwing in Cheetahmen II then you might as well throw in 1990 NWC
If you're going to go that route, than what about this? CM II was at least intended to be released, but due to financial reasons was not. Everything was set for it to be, but it was never sold. NWC 1990 was never going to be sold in retail stores, and it was an executive decision that released the gray carts into the public's hands. The gold ones were a giveaway.
If you want to include the NWC carts, then where should you stop? Test Carts were never sold to the public as well. By the same token, neither were prototypes, so they should be included on the list too. You're never going to come to a conclusion on a definitive, generalized list (and I'm not really thinking that anyone believes they will) because there is no set guidelines that everyone will collectively adhere to.
It has seemed to me throughout the years that the closest thing to a generality that has been agreed upon somewhat collectively by 'the scene' is the top 9 that were stated earlier: SE, My, HS, PP, BBB, Ca, CM2, FS2, BB2.
If someone wanted to do bb2 and fs2 that would be cool. I just went with the 7 because I didnt figure there would be too many. At least not more than 50 to 100 of each. I guess if everyone participates we might have a idea.

Good luck; even with Cheetahmen II it's a tall order. 1500 offered by Roach, 1200 purchased and resold to collectors with 300 being dumped to some charity organization on the east coast. Now - a decade later - there are roughly TWELVE HUNDRED CIB/sealed CII's in collector's hands. Even if you only got 5% of owners to respond, it would still be one honkin' huge list. There are a ton of F2 and BB2 carts out there too - a TON.
It's reasonable to try and record NWC owners, SE CIB owners, and Myriad owners (because the original cache was only like 19 sealed ones IIRC), but beyond those 3 titles, it's merely conjecture - not that there's anything wrong with that of course!
tOTALS AS OF 11;30 8-2-07 at the moment the totals are quite low as the caltron being most owned but thats with a total of only 25. So far no responses from AA or RF. im pretty sure megamanfan at AA has all 7. will be interesting to see totals in a week. surprising is there is only one more peek a boo pokers than myriad. of course its early yet
If we're going with Dain's 10, then besides what I mentioned before (2 F2's and a Caltron), I also have a BB 2 cart and (though in my opinion, this shouldn't count unless it's CIB) a Chubby Cherub cart.
Btw...Retrogamer72 has a CIB Chubby Cherub, as well...

you're right of course, although one could argue a technicality - its a CIB list and nwc never came with a box
