Ebay oddness
This isn't really an ebay complaint - just a kinda odd situation that I want to get some other takes on.
We are not talking a large amount of money here - less than $5 even with shipping.
Several weeks ago I found a PS1 Wild Arms 2 with no manual at a thrift store. I found one on ebay. The day before it was supposed to arrive I got an email from the seller explaining the wrong manual was sent and to please return the one I got. No biggie from my perspective - mistakes happen. Since I hadn't gotten it yet I emailed the seller and said I would just refuse it (meaning no postge would be involved - makes things a lot simpler). The next day I met the mail lady (she is pretty regular as to when she shows up) and refused it. I emailed the seller and he thanked me and said the right manual was on its way.
A couple of weeks later it hadn't arrived (I tend not to get anxious about stuff since I have stuff coming in all the time and it is rare I am in terrible need of something right away. I emailed the seller on the 13th and explained it hadn't arrived. I get a message back saying it had been sent out and should have arrived by now. They gave me a tracking number (which didn't work). They then issued a refund telling me to keep it free if it arrived.
I ordered one from another seller (which is on its way). Today I get a package from the first seller with what I assume is the manual (I haven't opened it yet). What is odd is that it was shipped on the 13th - the same day I emailed the seller about it.
Not sure why they took this approach - they could have just said oops - we spaced and didn't send it out. (And offered/gave a refund at that point if they felt they needed to.)
Like I said - no biggie since we are not talking much money here and I didn't lose even that - and I will have an extra manual I don't need (unless I find another one in the wild (as it were) with no manual.

So they forgot to ship it, and sent it out once you messaged them? But you got a refund so it was free? Certainly odd, but ehh, free manual right?
I guess I don't understand why they just didn't tell the truth and give me the refund at the same time if they wanted to avoid negative feedback. (Not that I would over something like this - like I said mistakes happen and this isn't exactly earth shattering in terms of importance.) This obviously didn't harm me - just kinda baffles me.
With something so inexpensive that isn't a surprise to keep up customer service. You have to keep in mind that a reasonable buyer like yourself is unfortunately a minority on ebay these days.
I understand the refund from that perspective - just kinda odd the subterfuge with the non-working tracking number. My guess is they didn't want to spring for a real tracking number and wanted to cover their bases if it didn't arrive?
Instead i get chris stuckmann's that lie and come bad mouth me on nintendoage over a 3 dollar manual they received in hand 7 days after purchase. Lol i just remembered that episode. He said I didnt send it out for 2 weeks. Lol that was classic.
I wouldn't say its an odd situation. Your going to get people who don't ship out right away and lie about it.
It is unusual in my experience (and I have bought literally thousands of things on ebay). I have gotten emails when people have shipped things late for one reason or another. I thank them for the heads up and tell them not to worry about negaive feedback for it. Way back when I had a few cases where I just got ripped off (this was when there was virtually nothing a buyer could do).
The oddest was when I contacted a seller about not getting something and he said that his girlfriend was supposed to be mailing stuff for him and instead was pocketing the money (unknown what she was doing with the stuff - in my case I doubt she had an LD player) he gave her for shipping things out - helluva a relationship there. But I did get a full refund on that one.

Lets be thankful that you been extremely lucky not to have experiences like that through thousands of transactions. I get maybe 4 people out of every 100 sellers on Ebay that don't ship the item or some major issue happens like the item gets damaged in the mail and they ignore.
