Nintendo Wars collection finally completed (mostly)!

Hey all!

Just thought I'd share my CIB (mostly... as Super Famicom Wars didn't come with a box) Nintendo Wars collection that I've been working on for a while.

I honestly didn't even realize there was a series outside of the US Advance Wars and Battalion Wars, until about a year ago, let alone entires for the Famicom, Gameboy, and Super Famicom!

Anywho, here are all of the titles that came out in the Nintendo Wars series (missing only the Famitsu version of Gameboy Wars Turbo, and the Japanese Advance Wars 1&2 combo cart... and I guess Japanese versions of the other games, which I'm not really interested in).  The original Advance Wars is actually sealed, which I'm happy about since it was my first exposure into this amazing series, way back when it came to America.

Comments

  • I knew about the Japanese ones, I didn't know Battalion Wars was part of the series. Really cool
  • Nice! Battalion wars 2 is one of my favorite games for the Wii!
  • Cool collection. I havent seen someone going for a Wars collection before.
  • This is neat. I would also like to get the North American games. Well done!
  • Very noice, congrats

I kind of remember when the first Battalion Wars came out, associating it to Advance Wars, which is why I bought it. For sure different in how it plays, but still fun
  • I love the Tin can packaging for the Game Boy Wars game
  • Lol. So what, exactly, is the name of the Wii game?

    "BWii: Battalion Wars 2"

    Seems rather redundant.

That's because the only official way to get Super Famicom Wars was through the Nintendo Power SF Memory Cart service. The SF Memory Carts (as well as the Gameboy ones) -did- come with boxes and manuals, but not ones specific to the games (usually, a couple exceptions) that could be burned to them at official kiosks.

So there is no official Super Famicom Wars box and manual
  • Finally found a excellent/mint condition copy of this bad boy, and for a great price (especially with that ebay 20% off up to $10 coupon from a week or so ago).  Now I just need the Famitsu version of Game Boy Wars Turbo, and I think I'm calling the collection complete!

  • I believe Hudson did the GB and GBC games. They also did a TG16/PCE game that is very similar. Gotta have that to be truly complete
  • Those games are awesome, I too was very happy to learn that the series started right off with the Famicom.

Military Madness?  Naaaaa it's not in the Nintendo Wars series!

... though it is a pretty cool game

  • Whoa! Mind blown! Had no idea!
  • Very neat! I love tracking down the patchwork of games in a series when we only got one or two of them outside of Japan, and though I knew that this one existed I had no clue of the variety of things that made it up.

Yeah, it was a fantastic discovery when I found out about Famicom Wars. It was even more amazing when you see how much of the games core is in place and functional from a game that old.

I'm preparing to translate my Famicom Wars cart to English with a re-programmed ROM chip. My brother is just waiting to decide whether he wants to install a ENG/JPN switch with the original ROM.

I've considered doing this as well/making a NTSC version, but I don't know how well translated the ROM is nowadays... Been a while since I looked..
I thought I remembered there being some issues with the words, for some reason.

There were 8 or 9 gameboy games released in those little tins.  They are pretty neat.

One thing I liked about super famicom wars was the rail gun - although it was rather clumsily used in the game - had some great potential though.

  • Hey neodolphino,

I've been playing Gameboy Wars 2 with the translation patch recently, but it's pretty hard since there's no ingame help like in AW. It's so unclear what units can do what, and there are no docs online about it (or 1 or Turbo) at all. Could you post images of the manual?

I haven't found any scans or images of the manuals either, but I hope the manual has some info on the units we could google translate.
  • what is this collection good for?
  • Advance Wars is my MOST wanted dormant Nintendo franchise I want to make a comeback. It seems as though a lot of the thunder for this particular series was stolen by Fire Emblem, which I've never really enjoyed anywhere near as much as Advance Wars.

My absolute favourite game in the series is Dark Conflict (aka Days of Ruin) which goes back to the flatter looking graphics of the GBA (and earlier) games, rather than the weird isometric look of the first DS game. I never much cared for the first DS one, mainly due to the look, but the second I played to death!

    Time for Switch Wars, perhaps?!

    Absolutely nothing!

A large majority of my collection is packed away at the moment, as I had to move, and will have to again in about 2 years.

I'll see if I can figure out where they are at, and will get you some scans if so.

Well with the success or Wargroove so far, I wouldn't be shocked if the Nintendo Wars series made a comeback sooner, rather than later!... Fingers crossed anyway!

  • I didn't realize Battalion Wars was part of the series. (Or that BW2 existed, haha). What's the gameplay like on those?
  • Thanks, looking forward to the pics!

On AW, I've been waiting for a 3ds or newer game for years now. Researching the GB Wars 2 I found there was a canceled 64 Wars too. Might just have to make a new Wars game if Nintendo does not get off their collective asses.
  • Such an awesome series. Wargroove is really helping fill the niche right now, too.
