Where are those replacement power jacks for the Model 2 Super Nintendo???

So I had the power jack on my Super Nintendo break on me almost 7 years ago. Problem is that mine is the redesigned Super Nintendo(the mini,Jr., or whatever you want to call it), and all the ones that I've seen online have been for the first model Super Nintendo. I have yet to find a replacement for the SNES Mini. What I'm thinking is that 3rd party companies are waiting for the patent to expire for the second model Super Nintendo(and since patents last for 20 years, and the SNES Mini came out in 1997, there might be a chance for replacement parts to come out). Would there be any other reason for these companies to not manufacture these parts yet? I've been waiting almost 7 years to get my SNES fixed(it works without it, but I don't want to take any chances and continue playing it at the risk of breaking it more).

  • IIRC, the existing SNS-001 replacements are the RepairBox/Hyperkin brand ones you've seen, if that helps at all. The SNS-101 didn't sell nearly as many so I don't expect them to make anything for that even though it's been 20 years. Then again, they did make replacement parts for Virtual Boy!

Alternatively, you could install a standard receptacle like the Japanese Super Famicom. The SFC used the same plug as the MegaDrive/Genesis and Famicom and is a standard size you can pick up at Radio Shack.
  • Never seen any. The 001 ones though. Tried replacing one. That was the hardest annoying thing ever trying to replace.

No one makes them because there is little demand for them

  • Yeah I'd figured that it's such a niche system compared to the first model SNES. I do remember contacting Hyperkin about it and they said that they were working on it(but that was 3-4 years ago, so they probably said that to shut me up,haha).I could only hope that it comes out eventually. But realistically I may have to replace it with a standard jack or hope to find a broken mini with the power jack still in place(not looking foward to it if it seems pretty bothersome to replace).
  • I'd just replace the jack with a Genesis-style jack.
  • I just drilled mine out and soldered on a molex connector to the main board

Use one of these to power it now

  • I know it's been months after this thread has posted., but I've read all of your suggestions and I appreciate it a lot. I actually want to come back to this thread to say that I've gotten my SNES Power Jack problem resolved. The other day I scored a Super Nintendo Mini on eBay listed as parts and repair that still has the power jack intact. I could probably desolder and swap the plastic pieces to get my own SNES repaired, and I could hopefully use your guys' suggestions toward the "as-is" SNES(assuming I could get it to work; it's a bit yellowed and battered up, I don't feel bad using its good power jack to fix up mine). Again, many thanks for advices!
  • Good luck with the repair

You need a top notch soldering iron for this job. One that gets hot enough. Hard as hell to get the old one off without damaging the pads
  • God damn, why is there still no 3rd party power jack support for the snes jr? I can't find anyone selling that back part for the life of me but for the fat snes, that part is as common as the snes av cables...

Ichinisan can probably print one of these for you, though the color will be completely wrong.

SNS-101 has the footprint for an RF modulator. If you want to add one, this replacement piece has the hole for one.
