WTB NTSC NES CPU and PPU

Hello,

Would like to buy a NTSC CPU and PPU or several of them for a project.

I am located in the Netherlands

  • I wish you luck. Generally speaking, those two aren't really available separately these days and typically only come from salvaged systems. As the top loader is as hot as it is, the glut of them that get salvaged go into repairing those versus ever really hitting the market. Your best bet is to buy a parts system or two and yank the chips you're needing as it's unlikely that you'll find them anytime soon any other way.

I need both of them so that they are not available seperately is not a problem. The reason why i only ask for the chips is to save money on the shipping cost since shipping 2 chips vs a complete system is huge.

I totally get that, but people who are going to take the time to extract the CPU and PPU already have designs of their own for them 99% of the time.  You'll either pay an insane premium for just the chips or just have to pay the bump in shipping to get the system.  Apparently Famicoms have the exact same chips in them, so where they're not as large/bulky as front loading NES systems, you might be better off trying to pick up one of those instead to save on shipping costs.

Thank you for the tip! Will also look into famicoms then.

First, as Wil Wheaton says (and I hate to quote him), don't be a dick.

Second, not all people realize that the Famicom has the same NTSC CPU & PPU that the US models did.  Seeing as PAL regions ended up with different models of the same chips, it's not unreasonable to think that a totally different region (with seemingly incompatible carts) might have different (and potentially incompatible) versions of the hardware.  OP clearly didn't realize this, so no need for your snark.

I might get a PM or a talking to about this, but to heck with it.  There's a fine line between being the Famicom God that you think you are and being an asshole.  You really ought to figure out exactly where that line is and stay on the better side of it.
  • PM sent.
  • you might want to check with game tech us. he buys bulk lots of mobos on ebay to pull good chips for himself. he might be willing to sell you some.

Sorry, I just get tired of people seeing the Famicom as some alien, inferior NES. It is virtually the same console. If anything, the NES is an inferior, butchered Famicom, given all the terrible design additions. The NES was the original focus of NintendoAge, some would say it still is. After 10+ years, it should be well known that the Famicom and NES are practically one.

In terms of "totally different region", I can't think of any consoles where the Japanese and USA versions are completely incompatible, be it software or motherboard chips. I can think of many examples where PAL is very incompatible with JPN/USA and vice versa.

    Here's a handy-dandy differences page for the NES/Famicom:
