Credit card details stolen using Gamereproductions.com

Just wanted to warn everyone that i ordered a repro through gamereproductions.com in March and 2 days later i was notified of suspect activity on my card from my bank.

I was lucky that my card was issued in a different country and wasnt able to used without a conformation password sent via a text message to my phone.

It was also the first time i had ever used that card for an online purchase. I'm not sure if it was the owner of the website or someone has hacked in somehow.

After persistently having to email him it took close to 6 months to recieve the repro also.

It also appears that it is not an isolated incident https://assemblergames.com/threads/lets-guess-which-one-of-these-websites-which-i-purchased-game-related-things-stole-my-cc.66289/

  • That sucks, I had my card stolen at a gas station through a skimmer. I found out because I got a notification that someone had spent $150 in gift cards at a dicks sporting goods, I knew immediately it wasn't me because I have never set foot in a dicks sporting goods. It's a hassle and I'm glad you caught it. For now on, I recommend using paypal for online purchases, its an extra layer of security.

Thanks for letting people know about this, good luck getting all that squared away.
  • Sorry to hear about your card too, it's not a good feeling when it happens. Canceled my card and got a new one straight away, was a bit of a shock that's for sure!

PayPal all the way from now, unfortunately PayPal wasn't an option to pay with at the game reproductions site.
  • This isn't the first time I've heard about bad stuff happening related to that site. Thank you for letting people know.
  • I gave the site the benefit of the doubt until i came across someone else that it happened to. Hopefully it's a case of the site needing better internet security and not the owner using peoples credit card details to buy stuff.
  • I've bought from them before. Gizzygames is gamereproductions. GG is the site that group uses to flip old games and the other is just for reproductions. Assembler games guy was overthinking that one.
  • Ugh, I've heard too many bad things about gamerreproductions. Why do people still buy from that guy?
  • credit card number data breach happens a lot, I see it everyday at work (Amex).
  • I don't know if one videogame website has had more problems than this one. Just constant issues with many buyers and only seems to be getting worse.
  • The site owners probably cheap out when it comes to site security. Reading a post from that Assembler link states that they had outdated software with a known back door exploit.

If this happened and you sincerely wanted to warn others for fraud, why did it take you 5 months?

As I said "I gave the site the benefit of the doubt until i came across someone else that it happened to". As soon as i found that out I posted it here.

  • Glad I never went further with buying from him. I requested a game, he sent an invoice, but when he refused to communicate about some basic questions so I just let it fizzle out. Sorry to hear about your experience.

If the site owner cheaps out and uses software that has huge known security issues such as this, that is still on them. You can't expect people to continue to do business with you if their credit card info is always getting stolen. OP was upfront and said he wasn't sure if they were hacked or if it was malicious by the owner. He also said it took almost 6 months to receive the game and posted a link to another thread confirming a similiar experience. I don't see any issue with him posting now.

  • There was a huge exploit in one of the last versions of WordPress that allowed the theft of credit card info.

Keep using WordPress for your pop-up sites and this happens.

I'll have to keep that in mind. We might have to go through Paypal if WordPress' POS systems have a huge exploit.

  • I think it's been fixed on the latest version, so you *should* be okay. Check their site for sure.

    Best Necrobump ever.
  • So we all agree that collector bootlegs and VAG grading are diseases.

I was going to say that to but it's still applicable because he received the bad karma for supporting the repros not for saying the thing he did in the other thread.
