Mario Odyssey Bundle up for pre-order

  • $300 console, $60 game, carry case / red controller = $20 I assume.

Switch is way too successful for them to throw in a premium title for free on a bundle. Best you could hope for within a year is a $300 Switch with some digital pack-in of a mediocre past game. (Arms, 1-2 Switch, something digitial from virtual console, etc.)
  • I hate this too, I need to eventually buy mario 3d land and mario maker since they came as downloads for me. But depending on the manufacturing cost, they are probably saving quite a bit of money. I do like the voucher system idea though.

    ARMS is mediocre?

Anyway digital only bundles have been the norm for awhile now, haven't they? All (or maybe most) of the Wii U ones except for the original Nintendo Land were digital, and I know when I got an XBox 360 a few years ago it came with digital codes for games. Same with 3DS.

My mario kart wii u bundle came with a physical and a download code for a choice of one of 3 games.

I'm wondering if this is a Canadian thing? I didn't get the bundle but I was pretty sure the Mario Kart Wii U bundle in the states had a digital copy that was preinstalled.

The download for one of the three games was available for all 32GB Wii U systems iirc.

hmm. Could be. They can't use the same bundle because it needs to have French on it. Wonder if they change that up.

My Xbone came with Gears of War Remastered Digital, so could be just a Nintendo thing.
  • Pretty sure the first release of the mario kart bundle was physical, they went digital after the first run.

I'll likely keep my order and decide when I get it in hand. The no safe data transfer is the kicker for me. Don't really feel like losing all my Splatoon data or swapping the tablets to be able to sell my current Switch.

I just know these won't be around forever and would really like to get the console and box for collection reasons. I have the Mario 3 NES bundle, SNES SMW bundle, classic 64, Sunshine GC bundle, Mario anniversary Wii and Mario Maker Wii U bundle, so I really would like to have this. Digital is definitely a piss off though. One very minor saving grace for me is that this would be my Switch forever, but still.

think of it this way, you can take Super Mario Odyssey with you on the go along with any switch game card of your choosing.

and you paid what? 80 canadian for air?
  • 80 canadian for one genuine digital license for Super Mario Odyssey, likely good until the eventual closure of the Nintendo Switch online service in 15 years.
  • The og Mario kart 8 bundle for Wii u that doesn't include the dlc is actually pretty uncommon. I rarely see it.

Completely agree. Pretty dumb in my opinion. I REALLY hope the Switch is able to swap save data by then too, but not holding my breath. I want to sell my current Switch, but may have to swap out the tablet from this bundle to do so. I'm such a sucker for this set as I pretty much fully admit buying it for the box and the sake that it's a Mario bundle.

Lol my exact plan as well. I have one ordered on amazon.

The switch has been on good supply lately particularly on amazon, I haven't seen any in stores but I probably could have ordered 20 switches from amazon by now.

  • I cancelled my order on this bundle. I just can't justify paying more for a digital copy and then losing money on selling my Switch. I am just going to buy the physical copy of the game and call it a day. I still think this console will command a premium in a years time just like most of the Wii U console bundles, especially Zelda and Mario Maker. Those were everywhere and then all gone within a month or less never to return. I just have no interest in buying $500 display boxes anymore.... like at all.
  • New switch update allows account and save transfer. It's all our nothing though which is still sad for 2017.
  • I know people like collectors editions but damn I wish more would boycott the ones that only come with a digital code.

But I know its a pipe dream (pun) because so many people will just buy whatever has mario on it.

This one has me completely torn. I did cancel my order, but now with this news about changing accounts I am still not counting out me buying one on the spot. As you said, these are gonna get sold regardless. I still really hate that it's digital only...
  • Lame, no physical game. No manuals to print anymore. Cost goes down but price goes up.

Thatta boy, way to stick it to em.

I just don't get why they just can't fire a physical game in there.....

Agreed. I never really gave it too much thought because sometimes it can be very convenient. But recently I've done a very big 180. I refuse to buy any digital game (that has a physical release) for full price. So by in large, I only buy physical nowadays.

It's absolutely ridiculous to charge full value, and I won't give gaming companies my money for that or any of their other shady money grabbing tactics. Can we rage about DLC and companies not giving you the entire game nowadays too? haha

On top of this, let's force people to buy digital games and provide them with no way to back up their saved data... Are you serious? It's 2017, not 1980.
  • If it was significantly cheaper it would be an easier pill to swallow, but full price digital is brutal.
