Rare model of Super Nintendo Kiosk acquired

Acquired this last weekend.

I've not heard of anyone else who owns one.  There was one that SwiftFrost found at a Futureshop but never acquired it before it closed.  His old thread is here:

I am in the process of restoring it.

The insert inside is missing.

Here is the best resolution image I could get of the insert from SwiftFrosts original pic:

Can anyone with art skills clean this up so I can reproduce this?  My photoshop skills are just not up to the task.

Alot of people were thinking this kiosk was an early version before they produced the kiosks we are used to.  As you can see this has super metroid on it which would make you think it was much later (1994). Unless they started printing new inserts or something for the originals.

  • Ah very neat! Always cool to see something new, congrats!
  • Kacy Cariaso (a heavy Kiosk collector near Seattle) has one, but its advertising (I believe) NES. Another guy on the kiosk facebook group picked up one of these about 6 or so (maybe longer) months ago.

Yeah the formfactor is used for the Nintendo Power Previews kiosk.  Which might be what Kacy has.  But this one is a different model # and obviously a SNES kiosk.

The guy you are talking about from the kiosk group (Ziah), is the previous owner of this one.

If anyone does find someone who owns one I would like to scan the inserts.

Ah cool. I guess you've read all the kiosk facebook groups postings about it when Ziah picked it up? If not, check it out.

And I will keep an eye out and keep you in mind if I hear or see anything.

  • That's awesome! Knowing virtually nothing about kiosks, this looks a bit short; is it meant to sit up on top of something?
  • Oh wow, that's cool! Congrats on such an amazing find!
  • Very cool!
  • Awesome pick up man! Only time I've ever seen this is on the Nintendo kiosk video on youtube. Definitely a super rare one!

Here's the video Kacey did on his in case anyone is interested in seeing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_TQj_QM0VA

  • It looks familiar reminds me of the one I saw while visiting a relative on a navy base in Jacksonville, Florida back when the SNES was launching.
  • Always jaleous when I see sign or kiosk! Comgrat!
  • This just feels like NES like it was repurposed when the SNES came out. There are some very similar design styles to the M82 Kiosk. So maybe it was a short-lived design and not edgy enough. Interesting. Nice grab!!!

Ya but it's got Super Metroid on it so it's not some failed early version.  I have a feeling it was some sort of conversion kit from the old NES kiosks.  But it is weird that they would convert it so much later and still make inserts for newer games instead of just requiring people buy the newer style kiosks.

All of the parts inside of it are for the latest model kiosk they made of the M80-C.  Has a physical switch for the timer instead of the dip switches.  Also whoever put this conversion kit on this put one of the arms on the wrong way.  Which is why one looks shorter than the other.

  • Cool! I seem to remember talking to a collector with a similar model but it was a PAL version, if I recall correctly.

Conversion does sound like the right idea. Man I would like to know more about this kiosk. Reach out to your "people" and get some answers. We must know!!!!

It just has so much stylings of this one.

  • That kiosk looks awesome but what kind of tv is it rocking and what video does it output.

Let me know if you find them.  I need a scan of the insert inside.

It has a Sony Trinitron kv-1380r.

A pretty nice TV from the 80s. Freakin stereo out headphone jack on the front and nice speakers on the side.

Only composite video and RF though.  I'm sure this is the TV that was used for the NES Kiosk before it was converted to a SNES Kiosk.

Looks good, but no where near as good as the RGB SNES kiosk monitors.
