I've been had. Please lock.

Hello.  I recently starting selling some of my rarer games to someone I know in NYC.  At first I thought he was bullshitting me with all the pictures of sealed Little Samsons, DK Competition carts, NWC Carts, and other super high end stuff but as i get to know him more and more he seems legit.  I have sold him a number of high end things and he always pays cash.  Anyway so he tells me he bought a SNES - Sony system from J & L games (or maybe Video games New York) in 2001 for 13k.  He sent me this picture.  he says the game cart is a functionong FF III (or VI in Japan).  I am hoping to see the system in person soon.  I will keep the group posted.  He says he has one of four in existence.

  • Curse you, photobucket.
  • Dam only have my phone right now.  I will correct it later.
  • Photobucket ransom pic...

Imgur is the way to go
  • Photobucket was absolutely horrible, long before they pulled this recent bullshit. I don't understand why/how people still using it.

    Use IMGUR!

    [edit]

Wow. Seems like this owner values his privacy if the fervor over the last one didn't entice him to come out and show his.
  • No clue why people insisted said that the other was the only one in existence. I remember someone on Facebook saying this somewhat recently. Of course, Facebook search sucks.

He seems to be very reclusive.  His collection is insane.  I am getting to know him little by little and I hope to play this system someday.

Makes sense. If he's too public, he might become a target!

Well, the state, but I think that's sufficiently broad.

We know the Sony US studio the last prototype came from was also in New York.

  • I got his permission of course.

The cart that has FFVI on it is interesting too.
  • Damn another one. 13k in 2001 sounds insane but I would've probably done the same. Any info on if it works? The cart is just FFIII with nothing unusual about it?

Is the picture that you attached of the console that he is claiming to be his?  That picture appears to be of the first found console on display at the RETRO.HK convention as you can see here

  • Oh snap! Looks like OPs got some explaining to do...
  • Dang! That's impressive detective work there Retrogamer!

    Hopefully OP has some answers!

The plot thickens.  Maybe he isn't telling the truth.  I shall investigate more.

IDK...  he says hes got more pics.  Lets see.  More to come.

  • Yeah.. My first thought after seeing the pic provided was it looked identical to the original one currently travelling from convention to convention.. even the cart was the same.... I got to see it at MGC and it was in a display just like that one in the pics. I see Retrogamer found the exact picture already, which is great!

Maybe the OGs contact does have one, but was lazy or couldnt easily take pictures of his... I know its extremely unlikely, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt for the time being...
  • It would be really cool if there was another one out there.
  • Yeah... I don't think there's much point in reserving judgment, looks like OP's been had. Reminds me of that guy on Assembler recently who met some guy trying to trick him into thinking there was such thing as a Star Fox RedZone for Virtual Boy.

Why he would voluntarily screw himself if he's buying items from OP all the time makes no sense to me.
  • Thanks for sharing.
  • I would like to have a sealed Little Samson.
  • Interesting.

I'm still waiting on some chucklehead to 3D print the shell and bits of one of these and calim it to be real.
  • Ok so he is saying that he has a house in another state which he rents out and he lives and works in New York City. We is going to take pictures sometime next month when he is back at the house. I suggested he get a local newspaper with the date clearly visible into the picture. He told me a very elaborate and detailed story about how he got the system. If his story is true, it kinda makes sense as he could never fit all of his "supposed" collection into a NYC apartment. He has shown me tons of pictures of shelves filled with NEO-Geo boxed carts, almost an entire boxed set of N64 and NES, other rare mint in the box systems (multiple CDX systems), etc. Either he is a total bullshitter and none of this is true or he is telling the truth. I thought he was bull shitting me at first until he met me at Starbucks and gave me $1,300 cash for a few items I was selling. He wants more stuff next week too. He seems to stay off the net. I told him I don't know why he doesn't buy stuff online. He likes to deal in person, cash. I have a pretty good bull shit detector and I believe him. Only time will tell. I will report back when/if I ever get pics.

Oh and now he is saying the system is for sale at 1 million dollars... lol

Can't make this stuff up. Or maybe you can?

    Me too.

I think he siad he paid 9k and wants to flip it for 17k.

He is also selling a NWC cart for 30k next week.  He says he has a buyer.  IDK... maybe I'm falling hook line and sinker here.  Call me crazy but I believe him.

Well he did meet you and hand you $1300 for some things. I mean thats a good sign his stories hold water.

  • Still smells like total BS. I won't be holding out any expectations for this, but it will be fun to keep an eye on this thread getting random bumps

That's what I'm thinking.  And he paid way over eBay prices.  He has been blowing up my phone with crazy pictures of his collection too.  I don't want to start posting them yet until I talk to him.  Maybe they are just pics from the net like the one he used for the SNES CD.  I've seen pics of him in his apartment which is litterally just wall to wall video games.  He is an "ecentric" person to say the least.  Seems like a super nice guy overall.

I know several people that have big collections and spend lots of money that still lie about what they have. The fake pics make me lean towards him having you hook line and sphincter

  • If he says come to his house and says the Nintendo PlayStation is in the basement. Run.
