JK. I like all of the NES Marios, except the 2 """"""""educational"""""""" ones. I don't really have a favourite but I'll pick the original arcade Mario Bros. as I have fond memories of playing it as a kid.
SMB3 has the most content, the most ideas, and plays very well, so that's my pick. I'm not gonna say it plays better than SMB2 because either game mechanically works well for that type of platformer. SMB2 would be my runner up.
I know this is a pretty controversial opinion, but I think Super Mario Bros. 3 is the best NES game of all time guys. I know it's a bit of an underdog.
SMB1. I guess it's one of those games where I just feel comforted playing it. Nostalgia is a factor. In the late 80's me and my friends would have sleep-overs and play SMB1 almost all night. SMB2 USA and LOZ would sneak in there a bit. Sometimes Rygar or Kung-Fu. But we were all about SMB1.
Super Mario Bros 2, my favorite NES game, and the first game I ever beat. I'd love it if Nintendo made a proper sequel to it.
I never thought about that. It's weird that in a world where Nintendo constantly iterates on old IP, basically every new Mario game only uses the SMB3/SMW formula. Another SMB2 would be great.
I enjoy SMB3 the most. For a variety of reasons, it is the most enjoyable on the system. I was initially surprised it hadn't been mentioned more in this topic.

I squeed so much when I saw I could play as Princess Peach there. It was a most magical moment for a wee lass, being able to play as her.

Hey itsa Bizzaro Mario.
...and yet I still wonder where his other foot and leg is and is this why Yoshi looks rather pleased?
I voted for SMB1 because its the ultimate classic.
^ Right here.
