Gameboy Pocket Ad February 1997

It's hard to believe Nintendo would have done this but looking at the ad campaign for Gameboy Pocket, I can believe it.

There was a period when they had an ad campaign that specifically targeted adults. I remember seeing ads in Popular Science magazine.

I didn’t see that one though

Well played Nintendo! Well played indeed.
  • Too bad it doesn't blow up, can't quite read that bottom line there as I bet it has some more fun snark to it.  This must have been an earlier try at adult ads because they did it with GBA too if I remember right.
  • Where did you get that picture?

And what's on top of the dresser? Is that a Super Scope?

I can make out everything but the end:

"SLIM, STYLISH, AND SMALLER AND PLAYS ALL EXISTING GAME BOY SOFTWARE ASDFASDFWHARGHARBL"

  • I remember the "Stick It - In Your Pocket" add campaign, kind of had the same feel of the "Make 7 Up Yours" campaign from a few years later.
  • I'd love to get that as an actual poster and hang it up.

    Text say:

"SLIM, STYLISH, AND SMALLER AND PLAYS ALL EXISTING GAME BOY SOFTWARE. PRICE £49.99"

Apparently it's British, rather than American/Canadian which is explains why there were willing to be a bit more risque.
  • A girl tied up on the bed is nothing, check out the old Davis Cup Tennis ad. It was based off a famous photo, so was a bit artsy in that area.
  • I remember the DS campaign where they got girls with tight tops that said "Touching is good".

    Naughty Nintendo!
