Its a Soda! I love Ginger Ale! I always have to have one on a flight for some reason. Sorta tradition.
I feel like that's the only time I have it, since I don't buy soda at home, and it is rarely on tap at restaurants, unless they have a Freestyle machine.
Yes, it's a soda...and one of the better varieties at that. In particular, it's far superior to any of those so-called "lemon/lime" carbonated beverages in that it actually has a flavor that makes you want to drink it.
I was really weirded out visiting the east coast and seeing it everywhere. When I was a kid, I only got it on planes, for the novelty, because it was available.
So, yeah, when I was 16 I was in a really bad car wreck. I crushed a vertebrae, and I was in the hospital for 14 days, after which, I went home wearing a back brace and was told to only move when necessary, and just enough to keep my muscles from atrophying. While in the hospital, they had a feeding solution hooked up by IV and the only thing I was allowed to consume from my mouth was Ginger Ale. Before the accident, I loved the stuff. However, being the only thing I could taste for days, it became literally one of the most disgusting things on the planet to me.
It's a shame. I really did enjoy ginger ale but now, even 20 years later, just the smell makes me nauseous and want to run away.

Agreed! I never touch pop but when I do it's Canada Dry for a couple-a mixed drinks.
What the bloody heck is a ginger ale?
It's hard to explain. Think of it as a less sweetened Sprite or a more flavorble club soda/sparking water.
Used in Canada and the US as something to drink when you're sick with a stomach bug. At least, that's what my family uses it for. hahaha
To the OP: since you can find it in the soda isle, it's in 2 liters, and it's carbonated, it's a soda.

But if it is a soda, why call it ale?
Does it even have any abv graduation?
It will be 110% lame if it doesn't!

Well, root beer isn't a beer and like root beer, it's non-alcoholic.
Soda? It's a coke
I would consider it a coke as well. A delicious one.
