Mini NES and NES game signed by Masayuki Uemura

Hello everybody,

Today I had the pleasure to meet Masayuki Uemura, the creator of the NES, shake his hand and ask him to sign some of my items.

Very sadly (or not, depending on how you look at it), I have to misuse the legend and now-collectible status of these items.

You see, right now it's time of immense financial distress in my household. I'm selling everything that has any value. Quite literally, 2 days ago I was asking for a miracle to send me some extra cash. The very next day I learned that Masayuki Uemura is coming for a Q&A session to my town and is gonna be willing to sign Nintendo items.

So yes, as much as I understand how much of an asshole move it is, I need to sell 2 of the 5 items he signed for me.

So (again I understand how this is), can you help me gauge the value of these?

  • 1 mini NES - never actually used, in box, EU packaging + 1 original extra controller new, sealed in box
  • 1 NES NTSC cartridge Adventure Island

Thanks and try not to hate me too much please.

BTW I also have photos of him actually signing these items. (I'd rather not post them publicly but scroll down for people confirming they've seen them.)

  • No hate at all. I don't see these signatures adding much value though honestly
  • You don't have to justify selling your property unless you got it signed by saying you'd never sell it
  • The mini is probably worth something, signed or unsigned. I don't think that the sig will add much.

Can't see Adventure Island being worth more with the sig of someone who had nothing to do with the game.
  • Is the NES Mini CIB? You say never used, so I assume it is.

Will be PMing if this is complete. Also, you mind posting the photos of him selling this stuff, or at least posting the images of him signing the mini and sharing it through Imgur to me in a PM?

I might be willing to make an offer.
  • Yes, CIB and comes with a new extra controller (updated the description). Sent you a PM with more photos rlh.
  • -nevermind-
  • Do you have pictures of him signing said items?

Yes, I'll send them privately over PM if someone wants to see or is interested.

Yes I would be. Send em my way.

  • I seen the photos via pm of the items being signed. Pretty cool.

Me too.  I turned down offering a price on the NES mini because this is the PAL/Euro version.  I know they are the same, but I just want an NA one, in box, setting on my shelf.  The sig is just icying on the cake.

I really hope these end up in the hands of someone who can appreciate them.
  • Thanks guys. Still available and no offers yet
  • Its quite a specific item. You might have better luck on ebay with a wider audience. Good luck!!
  • I put it on ebay with a best offer and I tried to contact every Nintendo collector I could find but so far no interest.

Hang in there. The NES mini should attract some attention unless you priced it to high heaven.

  • Hmm, let me google that...

    800 British Pound equals

    1049.28 US Dollar

Um, yeah ... I think you might want to be a tad more realistic.
  • I kinda did, but with an offer option.

It's hard to say how valuable it is really.

I might switch to an auction but I'm quite wary of that.

So basically it's open to offers. I'm gauging interest and I'll see over the weekend.

Yeah, but asking a grand tells people what kind of offers you're expecting. I was thinking, "Okay if he priced it at $300 OBO, he might get ~$250." $1000+? You're basically pricing yourself out of your market.

Uemura's sig is cool, but not a grand cool.

  • I guess so but how can I tell what's fair price if there's no real market and nobody gives me a quote or an offer so far?

I remember earlier this year the miniconsoles were selling for $500 - $800. So there are people willing to pay that much for Ninty stuff

But yea I'll have to go lower it seems. But hey maybe some gaming site will catch wind and it goes viral, like unique ebay items sometimes go.

That was back when everyone thought there were no more coming. Since Nintendo announced more are on their way, the only market is those not willing to wait.

  • Well honestly the reason why I priced it like this was because that's the amount of cash I need right now to survive the month. But obviously any reasonable amount will be good if there are no higher offers.
  • I'm almost afraid to ask what you want for Adventure Island.
  • Sigh, yea that's probably not even worth selling at this point, considering worldwide postage costs.
  • My 2 cents is that if you want this stuff to sell quickly (making it through the end of the month), you have to be prepared to accept a lower price. If you had more time you could leave it and wait for the right person willing to pay more, but you don't seem to have that kind of time. This kind of thing you can sell for the slow dime or the fast nickel, but you're not going to get the fast dime.
  • On the NES Mini, and especially on Adventure Island (why Adventure Island?) I really don't see these signatures adding much value (If any). When you do sell them, be sure to come back and say what price you were able to get. In this instance, I'd love to be proved wrong. Hope everything works out!

Fair market price is starting it at .99c and doing a no reserve auction. What are you "nervous" about? Not getting what you think the value is? Right now, the value is whatever a Nes Mini and loose copy of adventure island is worth. To find out what premium people are willing to pay for the signatures, you need to put it on the open market and let it decide.

Edit: you wont get NEAR 500-800 for the mini now that they are re-releasing them unless someone pays that premium for the signatures (which I highly doubt but you never know)

Especially true if you're expecting a fast quarter.

  • The thing is, as long as I try to sell it to the general public (ebay), people who actually might be interested or appreciate the sig may not find it. Especially since this particular sig isn't something people may commonly get in touch with. So what I'm trying to do is to contact Nintendo collectors and generally people who might be fans. But so far no luck anywhere.

If you google for Masayuki Uemura signature, there are just a couple of results where people love having his sig and treasure it. So I would think that fans are certainly out there.

I'd also rather keep it honestly. But yea since I need the cash right now, I need to. I might add a regular auction option starting at .99 or so, but then I'm worried I might actually sell for less what I paid in the first place. That would suck.

As for why Adventure Island, because that's one of the only NES cartridges I had on hand.

Well I'll be putting more of my stuff on sale this weekend so I'm gonna give this more thought.
