I just completed Super Mario Land for the first time ever the other day. Even though I bought a Game Boy in the spring of '90 and loved the poor thing to death, I never managed to own Super Mario Land and only ever played it for a few minutes at a time on store demo units or at a friend's house.
I've heard some folks call the game boring/unappealing/frustrating and I've also heard lots of "it's not a real Mario game" spiel. Honestly, I find the game quite charming and really good fun. The controls do take a little getting used to, as Mario feels a bit more slippery than in other series titles but a couple of stages in and you'll be doing just fine.
Earlier today i finished Troddlers on the Super Nintendo. I'm always surprised that game never shows up on a hidden gems list. It's a good mix of Lemmings and Solomons key with catchy music and a good password system for easy stop and start up play. It also has a really fun multiplayer that I used to play when I was younger. It's a shame no one has heard about this game
I'm Kid Dracula on the Famicom, fun and witty too bad I was able to beat it within 2 days with save states. Maybe this opens the door to try other Konami Famicom Exclusives
Duck Tales 2, finally added it to my collection and was not disappointed. I beat it pretty quickly on normal, so I'm going to try difficult next. Also recently received Cowboy Kid and making pretty quick progress on that too. It took me a bit of time to get used to my hitbox/attack range.
Just finished Ys Origin, hell of a game! Three characters, three separate although related storylines, you need to finish the first two characters before unlocking the third (and "true") character and ending! Fabulous music! Short, sweet, epic game (around 25-30 hours for all three characters, on normal mode, lots to unlock for those that enjoy that stuff). Overall easy (on normal) but you will die a few times. Nice story. Overall definitely an A- game, most highly recommended!
The LRG Collector's Edition... meh. Cheap box. One poster. One flimsy art book. How much did it cost? $55. How much should it have cost? $30-35. Yup, the "extras" in this collector's edition are pathetic. Especially the box itself. If I didn't know any better I would say the box was a bootleg, it sucks so bad! Oh, and take a look at the "quality" translation:
"After a while, the accident was occurred."
That there be some impressive Greek alright oh, and can you at least try to get the name of the characters correct without getting it all Fukt?
In short -> great game, the regular LRG physical copy is great, the collector's edition is just sad.

Both awesome tough games.
