As for the art I hear you but if you look closely at the figure and the cardback illustration you can see they don’t match at all. The colours are the easiest tell as the two tone on the figure is more subtle and the contrast much more pronounced on the cardback. There are other differences also
Oh, I believe it for sure. Just commenting that it's a different style from most Nintendo promo art of the time. The texture looks physical, not flat color and cartoon-ish. Most contemporaries to this painting look more like the illustration on the front of the card.
I really like this illustration for what you pointed out gunpei. It almost looks like a clay sculpture of the figurine that was painted realistically. Great work overall.

Yeah its almost like a painting designed to look like a photo of a better toy than it was LOL
I don't have it front of me but I think the board is a little under two feet tall in total, and the image of DK around a foot tall with six inches of blank space above and six inches below? Something like that.
I am just seeing this post. Very neat. I recognized the painting as soon as I saw it. I have the Donkey Kong and Mario figures. I never knew much about them. I'm going to make a visit to my parents and find these. I know they are there because I saw them earlier this year. Great find Dan!! Thanks for sharing.
