We do in Iowa, but it's jam packed all day every day, I swear they are never slow.  We tend to sacrifice the awesomeness of CFA for time lol.  Damn good food though.

  • Time for a normal Ozzy simi-related story. Most people really don't give fast food a good objective look, or they just bash it without understanding it. Hell, even nutrition, they don't understand. And toss out terms like "processed meat", the fuck kind of nonsense is that. I've been in the food industry most of my life (Before making on hell of a change), trust me, what you get from fast food places is most likely cleaner than the mom and pop ones you think you're buying at any farmers market for example. Course, over half the people there are fakes who buy the stuff from packing companies directly, or in some cases, from local grocery stores themselves.

This is where I would rant for like, 20 pages here about the misunderstanding of farming, how there's no chickens with antibiotics in stores, and how the whole high-fructose corn syrup is an IQ test, to weed out the people who never actually look at the shit they say. Most fast food is not that bad for you. And most people's idea of nutrition is so fucked up, they talk about "empty calories" the most idiotic thing ever. "Oh it has lots of vitamins and so is good for you". What happens if you added a vitamin spray to something then? Is it now a health food?   Oh wait, that's not "natural", but that ruby red grapefruit that's the product of nuclear mutation, that's fine.

Unless you're drinking the giant ass non-diet sodas all the time, and\or have issues with salt levels. One giant non-diet soda, good god....

Anyways, I love me some fast food. Even more so if subway counts. Roasted chicken breasts, yum. Faves would be the double whopper w/cheese, and while I will say it's not really something that is BAD for you, the amount in it of everything isn't good for you, so yeah, that is definitely a with moderation thing.

When I was at the farm, I weighed about 200 lbs, and at 5' 10", I was "overweight". It was muscle though, I had a bit of love handels, but I would spend most of the morning carrying small cattle around. I used to carry 50 lb feed bags 2 at a time, unless showing off, then it was 4 at a time (And THAT was not easy). I ate subway almost daily, and fast food every night. Like, double whopper or triple whopper. And at least 1 big slam of pepsi during milking, and 2-6 cans besides it. In general, 3 liters of normal pepsi a day.

Then I left the farm, and gained 70 lbs in three months. Yeah, who knew, huh?

Yeah, I don't think I've ever been to one that looked like it was having a slow time.

No, I don't.  Wife LOVES them, but it's a 45 min drive to the closest one.

I never liked Chik-fil-a's menu much, and hated their fries, but then I tried their nuggest last time wife got some, and they were good.  But I'm not a fan of their normal chicken patties themselves.    But I also like my chicken a bit dryer than most, chicken juice never settles well with my stomach. Same with steaks, rare and med rare steaks to not gross me out, but they do always upset my stomach.

I will say though in 5 guys defense, the one we normally hit up doesnt seem quite as good as others we've been too on the road.

That is a shitload of sugar (and calories).

Pepsi is 150 calories (41g of sugar) per 12 oz.

  • Chic Fil A, yes. The one product I've been asking them to make for a while is spicy nuggets. Their spicy sandwich is chicken sandwich perfection, which is still improved with a slap of pepper jack cheese.

I've lived in the south my entire life (SC, GA and now NC) and there has never been a time where CFA hasn't been in my life. I feel so bad for you guys who are unaware. And regarding volume, a couple of years ago I use to work in downtown Charlotte. All over downtown there is what's called an "over street mall" which is basically a big mall taking up the second-floor of many of the high rise buildings, which you can get to each section via catwalks. Anyway, there is a Chic Fil A in one of the main buildings near the center of town. At lunch, the line is often 40-50 people long but even then you'll usually have your food in-hand within 10 minutes of getting in line.

Honestly, I don't know how they do it. It's quite a remarkable feat of engineering.
  • We don't have many Chik Fil As up north. I've been to one ever, and it was good but not amazing or anything. It was a really long line too, but it was in a casino and all of the lines were long so...

Another that I never had before until I visited my friend in Virginia the other month was Sonic. The shake was good, but man the food was really mediocre. I feel like down south there are a lot more variety in fast food places.

The closest thing to me is McDonalds, so usually when I have a fast food craving I go with that. The BBQ Bacon signature crafted burger is really good, it rivals the "angus burger" they had a few years back but of course is really expensive.

Five Guys and Dairy Queen are probably my two favorites for fast food.
  • They're doing spicy strips, rlh. As for their speed, I've only been inside one on a college campus. There they were making the sandwiches in bulk and put it down a little shoot and people walked by and grabbed whatever sandwiches they wanted.

It's the magic of only offering a couple of products, and leaving it to the customer, entirely, to add any condiments.

The food at Sonic is pretty mediocre.

They are more of a pitstop for drinks, slushies, or icecream.

I tried them over lunch today and honestly, not too bad!  Better quality than I expected, as a former employee that worked at BK back in the 99cent chicken finger/popper days.

I love spicy foods and these ones even caught up to me - they are definitely hotter than the Spicy Nuggets/Chicken from Wendy's.

Now please rest easy and further enlightened in your far-too-difficult daily lunch choices.

You guys have any crappy fast food gotos?  Not gonna lie, the KFC famous bowl is normally my jam.

I laughed really hard at this
  • We JUST got a chick fil a here like 2 years ago (in sunnyvale) its ok. I like the sauce.

LOL! I think it's pretty funny that you are making the same argument Ichinisan and I made here:

    https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/most-salt-we-eat-does-not-come-from-chips-and-other-snacks.2469963/page-5

...and it's seemingly in response to my use of the word "processed" (I was the only person to use it before you).

EVERYTHING is a "process," from picking the plant to cutting it. When we say a certain food is "processed," what we mean is that it's PARTICULARLY processed in comparison to what you would expect in the normal course of preparation. It's a matter of degrees. You expect hamburger to be ground beef, so grinding it doesn't make it particularly "processed." You don't freeze-dry and reconstitute your apples when you make an apple pie, so doing so makes an apple pie particularly "processed" in comparison to one that was just made from scratch with household ingredients.

I'be seen how chicken nuggets are made and they are surprisingly NOT more "processed" than you would expect. I mean, you know that they come partially cooked and frozen so that should be no surprise, but the process leading up to that from a raw chicken is basically A) chop off the best parts from the breast B) grind it up with seasonings C) Shape it into a boot, ball, bone, and bell D) Flash-fry and batter E) Quick-freeze and ship. In all honestly, it seems like a waste of great chicken breast meat! Anyone complaining about them being particularly processed compared to other chicken nuggets is being unreasonable (well, hey, CFA doesn't even grind it up!).

Whole-grain is, by definition, less-processed than refined white grain... unless you added it back to bleached grains to call it "whole." The Market Fresh Sandwich has bits of oats and other grains stuck to the crust and suspended in the bread (not even turned to flour) and the bread hardens fast (fewer preservatives). Even if they do add it back make white flour first, the added grains are still less processed than a white and fluffy super-soft Filet-O-Fish bun. I am DEFINITELY using the word "processed" correctly.
  • Oh, man, I really hammered the point home in this thread:

    https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/how-long-do-you-take-to-order-at-fast-food-places.2440594/page-6

...everything is "processed" to different degrees, so it's a matter of context when we chose to describe something with the word "processed." Duh. Obviously, it needs to be processed to a certain degree for it to be appropriate to label it as such, else we would call everything "processed." Also duh. Still with me? Good. Now, when it becomes appropriate to label something "processed" is surprisingly easy to define: when it is particularly processed beyond what is expected for making that product normally. Labeling ground beef as "processed" merely because it is ground is ridiculous. Labeling it as processed because other recovered parts with high bacterial content were added after being soaked in ammonia to make it edible would be appropriate. It is now a defining attribute.

Let's apply that to chicken nuggets. Like hamburger, nuggets are almost always ground. If they weren't ground after being separated from the bone they would typically be sold as strips, fingers, boneless breast, or tenderloins, not "nuggets." Maybe it's different where you come from, but there is exactly one place I have ever seen fried chunks of unground chicken referred to as "nuggets" (Chik-fil-a).

Grinding chicken is an expected part of "processing" previously living chickens into nuggets just like picking and bagging apples is an expected part of processing fruiting trees into bagged apples. It is not processed more than a chicken nugget is expected to be, therefore "processed" would not be an appropriate way to differentiate it from other presumably less-processed nuggets.

If you speak English then you should know that it is inappropriate to apply that terminology in that context. You must be playing dumb. Would you label a bag of natural, pesticide and preservative-free, organically raised, hand-picked, non-GMO, apples as "processed" too? If so, you're only admitting that your previous labeling of McNuggets as "processed" was equally pointless. If not, then explain the difference.

Oh... and for the HFCS haters? Yeah, we've argued about that too:

    https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/dont-put-ketchup-on-hot-dogs.2392691/page-16

Other than the fact that corn doesn't exist in nature outside of mankind's agriculture (and never has), one could argue that table sugar is typically more "processed" and less natural than HFCS (comes from beets in the US).

The world needs more people who think like you instead of these mindless sheep who'll believe any health "science" hoo-doo. It isn't science if you just assume correlation=causation.
  • Surprised no one has mentioned chik-fil-a Polynesian sauce. Simply the best thing to ever happen to French fries
  • Just throw it all in the garbage, I don't mind cooking at all I actually enjoy it. When I can get 5 chicken breasts for the price of a Big Mac combo it makes the decision pretty easy too.

    Steak tonight boys.

  • I like Burger King. Fuck anyone who says otherwise! Although I have yet to try this...
