Sega Saturn Question

So, i recently picked up a sega saturn from a yard sale. When i went to put in a power cord, I realized that the back was different from another one I have (where you put the power cable in). Is this missing a piece (if so can I find that piece somewhere)? Or is this broken and just for parts? or does this require a different power cord? Any help would be appreciated! It is the system on the right that I am talking about (034482)

  • i notice the system on the right is model MK-80000, the left one is MK-80000A. both have different styles of polarized ungrounded ac socket. smaller pins on the right system though...
  • Both consoles use the same polarized power cord. Like Koopa said, the one on the left is the revised model. The socket mold on the revised is different to make it harder for people to accidentally plug the power cord in backwards.
  • It seems like the one on the right has smaller pins to connect though. The cord doesn't connect to them easily. I didn't get it to connect because i didn't want to force it

Which one needs the cable?  I pick up spare cables similar to these from a local thrift shop when I see one (there's three variations to this type of plug in) and I might have a spare one lying around.  PM me. If I have one the one you're needing, I'll send it to you for $1 (my cost) + shipping.
  • The US uses AC, right? Should any/all non-polarized plugs work? I always use non-polarized plugs for consoles that have a polarized input, and never had a problem.

Hey man, I'm sorry.  As (bad) luck would have it, I have every variation BUT that one.  I wish I could help.  I'm going to swing by the thrift shop today.  They have a whole pile of cable.  I'll see what I could find.  I'll pick it up if it's a $1.  Some times they mark cables up to $3, but you might be able to do better than that searching on your own.  Still, message me withing 15 minutes and I'll grab it at that price if you want it, and they have one.

  • I don't mind buying one online. I am just not sure where to find it. Searching Saturn Power Cord on ebay hasn't helped.
  • This should help.

You need a figure 8 polarized power cord, the dreamcast uses the same cord if you have one around.

    If it's double round end, it's non-polarized.

I'll have to look, but I might have the flat-sided (no grooves on the side) polarized (square end and round end) Saturn power cable, but again you could just get by with the double round ended non-polarized power plug. Some manufacturers call them "universal" power cords since it doesn't matter which end you plug into these consoles.

    Unless you live in Europe(?)

  • I thought the Saturn used a very common cord that would be easy enough to find. Its that video input that for me was a royal pain in the ass to locate (was a long time ago and could only find one on play-asia).

The pins are both 2.5mm wide (I measured both with a micrometer).  Just plug any old power cord in and you'll be fine.
