What collection tracker do you use?

Hey all!

I'm just getting back into the fold of collecting and I'm looking for a stable website/software that will offer a quality way of keeping track of my collection. There are a few that I've been testing out, but I'm looking for something that I can download into a CSV format or a way to access my collection offline. I've ran into an issue before where online based trackers went down and I couldn't get to my collection again.

Any and all tips are appreciated! Thank you!

This. Easy to check on your phone when you're out, and you can customize it however you please.

Here, you can even use my template if you like

  • So far, it seems like the majority is going with a spreadsheet style format. I don't mind it, and I had one back in the early 2000's. I might just go back to this method.

I use this Android app on my phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection&hl=en

The collection data is stored on my smartphone, but it can be exported to CSV or backed up to my Google Docs. The app will auto download box art and other info if you want. The scrolling layout is quite nice, I was able to quickly flick my thumb while browsing at RetroWorld Expo to see if a title I was looking at was already in my collection.

Edit: Free version has banner ads. Paid version ($4) removes all ads.
  • Gamevaluenow app
  • Retro game collector for the IOS system is a solid app. I like the value of recent EBay sales. It's helped me track and look up quick values in the wild.

I keep reading about Retro Game Collector. Is there a way to download your collection in a CSV style format or anything like that? I'm really leaning towards this app!
  • A program named Gameye. Lets you scan the carts and barcodes of games with your phone to upload them to your list. It's pretty groovy. I dig it.
  • my own filemaker program. I can output to a site, which is nice to have a list when hunting in the wild (bleepbop.com/list.pdf)

plus I can do all sorts of painful math like how much I've spent overall, how much I've spent per day since I started collecting (2003), etc. It's painful, but important to be intellectually honest.

also, you've put on a little weight. I wanted you to hear it from a friend.
  • A friendly reminder that this site has a collection tracker... which I don't use but I know exists.

Ugh, for me I've not found a perfect solution. I have a Google Sheets of my Game Boy collection since I'm looking to go for complete set of carts, that match condition requirements that I have. That document records all types of details including variants and rarity, with notes.

I also use GameValueNow.com and I (shhh....) created two accounts. One account is everything I own. It's great so I can explore a collection and track how value has gone up an down. My second account is my want list. When a have a few bucks and I want to through $10 at a game (shipped, of course) I just browse that collection, filter it/sort it as desired and then I choose the title to hunt for. It's also a good way of checking to see if I really need a specific uncommon NES game that's pretty cheap at a used game shop.

Though I love GVN, I've not found the "perfect tool" and, in fact, I don't know that that'd be. Some times I want a spreadsheet and sometimes I like a nice graphical interface complete with pictures and details on games. I guess I'll always be divided.
  • I use https://collection.gamevaluenow.com/login works good for me, just wish they added Super Famicom and Famicom
  • Microsoft Excel with OneDrive so I can view it on the go. It's the only system that organizes everything the way I want.
  • Thanks for the all the input, guys! It seems like either using your own spreadsheet or Game Value Now is the way to go! I've been messing around with VGcollect.com for a while as well, but I just wanted to get an idea of what the community was using.

I've been messing around in the dashboard of GVN and I love it! The only draw back I see is there is no way for me to have a want list without adding another account, right? That's the only downside I really see right now.

I know that's on the TODO list, but for now this is true. Still a worthwhile tool.

  • I think enough posting has happened now that this won't come off as a shameless plug.

I use the one on GameValueNow, surprise surprise!

I like that it tracks prices daily for my whole collection, and I can add my own stuff (and even suggest that it be tracked). The layout is great on desktop and mobile, making it super easy to find and add games.

I do wish there was slightly better integration with the main site (an "add this game to my collection" button), but I know from working with Hogie that sky is the limit, so we'll see what the future holds.

You and Hogie do fantastic work! I was comparing it to VGcollect and I'm in the process of moving over to GVN. I LOVE the ability to export my collection to a CSV as well. Thank you for this!
  • Really thank Hogie for the tracker, I just do front end work on the main site!

PureGaming.org is their site.  I dont know if you can dowload or not.  I just use the NES tracker so it was easy for me to do it from scratch.

Well crap!  I just checked out gamevaluenow.com, it's a solid site.  I paid for my app and yours is just as good if not better.   Nice work!!!

Thanks for the link! I appreciate it!

  • I used to use the retro collector app (at least the NES one) but it was too inflexible. It didn't seem to care about differentiating licensed, unlicensed, PAL, accessories (Game Genie, etc.), variants. It was too much work to try to bend it to my will. Spreadsheets for me.

Spreadsheets are by far the most popular answer I've seen so far! Makes me want to reconsider my plans for my tracker.
  • My spreadsheet is on http://www.radiantsilvergun.com/collection

I've seen some incredibly elaborate ones with purchase price, date, sale price, sale date, multiple pictures of every game, etc. I stopped even tracking if games are CIB. Tracking too much stuff made buying new games feel like data entry work. Apps and websites just took too long in many cases for me. I just assume carts are loose and discs are complete in my sheet, anything better than that is gravy.
