I used to think Funko Pop toys were harmless collectibles

But now I have to live in a world where monsters these exist

  • Eh I don't mind them so much, here's mine:

  • I have a small collection of specific ones that I like. My wife has a sickness when it comes to these though. She has over 100 Batman/various Batman characters. Its a joke, they change one thing about one and sell it as a variant. Some of these sell for a lot too, its ridiculous. $1000+ for a metallic Riddler?! Kiss my ass.
  • Glad I never got on board with those.

Some of the exclusive valueable ones are pretty slick though

Yeah I've been helping a co-worker with selling off her collection, and they're going for $100-400 depending on the figure. Ridiculous for what are actually pretty goddamn ugly little things.

  • Actually those South Park ones aren't bad. They make sense for that art style. I have a couple Dragonball one's
  • I wanted to jump in on the Funko world, but I was too scared that I would be sucked in. There are just too many versions that I want to collect.
  • But she's got a new hat!
  • Yeah I'm not worried about variants, I just want one of each iteration. The Terrance and Phillip Funkos have "Chase variants", where they are holding Canadian flags. I have one of Terrance with a flag and one of Phillip without, and that's fine for me. I'm not gonna worry about variant completion at all.
  • Not a fan. Its so cliche to compare things to the " new beanie baby" but i swear this is it. If i had valuable ones of these id sell them today without hesitation. These things are going to pollute flea markets for years. Its already started if you find an overpriced "nerd culture" themed booth. Where they got some of these liquidated. Those booths always have these and store liquidated/ gave to goodwill and bought to flip force awakens stuff.
  • Look up:

    Planet Arlia Vegeta
  • There's maybe a couple I like, but for the most part, I'm not into Pop figures.
  • The Sonic one looks like those deformed sonic ice cream pops that you can get at ice cream trucks.

Youre 100% accurate in calling them the new Beanie Babies. I fear Amiibo are going down the same path, but only because I have a shitload of them already lol.

God damn. I love that OG paint job though, but I wouldn't pay a cent over retail for it.
  • SHIT I didnt know they had an Iceman funko!

    *Hits BIN*

  • I don't mind super deformed art but hate how they've made the heads so square. If not for this reason I would own hundreds of these stupid things.
  • I hate the eyes on them as they come off like soulless zombies or maybe someone who has been hitting too many shroom which Sonic gives that vibe with up there in that first post. I won't touch the stuff unless they lack those creepy eyes.

The difference to me is funkos dont have a function. Amiibos being a nintendo product and a small function will help them be somewhat collectable. When Amiibo starts slowing down I see nintendo stopping producing them. Nintendo hates flooded store shelves of not selling product.
  • I have about 200 pops at this point but I've run out of room for them in the house. I don't like the design of the regular human characters, I prefer the monstrous looking and video game based one's. I do admit owning a few comic ones as well but I don't plan on purchasing many more at this point.
  • Agreed.. Don't understand it. Amiibos are borderline just as annoying. And boxed Pop collectors are the strangest. Why do you want your house to look like the toy section of Barnes N Noble or Hot Topic? To each their own I guess.
  • I'm not a huge fan of them, but I received a Marty McFly Funko Pop as a gift. It's pretty cool, though, because it came with a DeLorean to put him in.
  • I think they're ugly and therefore will never buy one.
  • My wife said no....just.....no.

They're more like this generation's Hummel figurines

Much like the massive amount of junk accumulated by baby boomers, the next generation is going to resent us for having to deal with massive stockpiles of Funko Pops

  • I own one Funko Pop figure (Jack Burton of Big Trouble in Little China) which sits in my cubicle at work. I have some coworkers though that have gone nuts with them; cubicles filled with dozens of those figures.
  • I buy them now and then. I have a few from shows I like (Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, MLP...) and some from movies (BTTF), some from games (Fallout) and then anime ones (Sailor Moon).

They're really cute...but the exclusives...oh man the exclusives just kill me. Like the Comic Con exclusives...I hate that. I can't go to Comic Con so I end up having to pay after market prices which are stupid. Or there's the rare ones...like the Monster Cereal ones (look up those babies!).
  • I have the Mega Man ones set up next to my other Mega Man stuff (Buster gun, the games, misc figurines, etc). Don't really care much about the others, though the fiance snags some Disney ones here and there, which will look good next to the Lego Cinderella's Castle.

I actually think amiibos will rebound a little. There are a lot I haven't seen in a long time in store and go slightly above retail online. Not saying someone is gonna cash in, but I see some climbing over time.
  • Just got home from Comic Con. These were everywhere. Even had an official booth.
  • Go to EB games for the first time in a while, a full wall dedicated to them
