What is that one Nintendo item that you will always regret letting go of?

  • In 2007 I was helping my parents clean out our lake house in Wisconsin I found my old NES collection among other items from my childhood in the 80's. Most of the games had their original box and instructions but when I got home I tossed the boxes out

    Chrono trigger Beta Cartridge.

I literally get sick thinking about it. Haven't seen another since i sold mine 2 years ago and it was CIB.

I guess I need to reaearch this, but how is a "beta" (prototype?) also "CIB?"

  • Can't say I regret anything too much. I sold my M82 in the mid-2000s, but rolled all that money back into 100s of NES games before the pricing dark ages, so I don't regret that for a second.

If one thing sticks out, I sold a copy of THPS2 on GBA for $0.25 to Gamestop. I remember my stomach sinking when I saw the price but I didn't say anything. That was the last time I traded anything to GS

Beta may be the wrong term i guess. Prerelease might be better?

But Chrono trigger had a cartridge that was sent to multiple magazines and companies to review and promote the game before it came out.

A solid chunk of material was changed after that cart was released, sprites, locations, music, etc

It came in a sfc box with crimson letters of the title and a manual.

Oh wow! This would haunt me for awhile!
  • My entire childhood is gone. I have no clue how/why I sold them?! Honestly. The only items I have are sparse ephemera like my original Metroid II poster and a Sega Saturn promo VHS. Basically though stuff that was thrown into my childhood trunk and forgotten about.

I think the biggest "regret" I have is around 1999-2000 I bought a factory sealed Final Fantasy III in pretty decent shape. I think there was minor wear in the shrink wrap but the box was in great shape. I think I got it for around $100-125 and flipped it for a few hundred. Good profit but, man... that's a sealed game I wish I never got rid of. Oh, and I also bout a sealed Collector's Edition copy of Zelda OoT for around $60 at one point. Later sold it for $75.

These mistakes will never happen again. I determined along time ago that if I bought it, I bought it for life. That rule has only changed since I've gotten serious about collecting for duplicates or games bought in lots that I have no attachment too. Basically, if I buy it cause I want it, a copy will always remain in my library.
  • I regret nothing!!!!

This sort of thing happened to my brother and I repeatedly over the years.

    NES stuff.

    Whole SNES collection.

    N64 stuff.

    GBC stuff.

    Whole Gamecube collection.

    GBA stuff.

    Wii stuff.

    DS stuff.

    Stop.  Lending.  Stuff.

  • The only "regret" I have would be leaving my Mutant League Football case in range of my basement flood.   I had bought it brand new; still had the football cards and everything.

Other than that I wish I had waited to sell a few things, but it's nothing I regret doing.
  • My gray NWC cart. It was in excellent condition and I doubt I'd even be able to afford to look at one now.
  • I had a sealed conkers bad fur day i got for $40 bucks back in like 07 08.

    Wish i kept that one.
  • Selling my mint cib Dracula X on the snes for $100 to buy a herb if you catch my drift it was stupid and I regret it everyday especially since I'm trying to buy another cib one again and they're going for $500+.

My other item was my original Super Nintendo. I grew up with it was my first system ever. But that wasn't really my fault my mom threw it out when I moved out because she didn't think that I wanted an old game system but I found out 3 months after she threw it out because that's when I decided to pick it up after having a bug up my ass to play some Super Nintendo. But for some reason she decided to keep all my original games so I still have them but just not the Super Nintendo

Curious, how did you originally obtain it?  It seems to me that that item would have always been somewhat expensive.  Was there ever a time when you could find one for $200-300?
