Large international money exchanges

It's time for me to part with my collection of 15 years, GameValue pegs it at over $12,000 canadian. I want to sell it as a whole lot.

What is the best and safest way to transfer funds at this level, especially across borders. Mainly between Canada and the USA, but others should be considered. I've sold many things on Ebay but never more then a few hundred dollars so PayPal has worked well in that reguard. This however is considerably more.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • There must be at least a couple of people on here that have bought or sold a $10,000 item internationally.

What aboot those new sealed Stadium Events that showed up a couple of years ago, someone bought them. How are those transactions handled?
  • I know some of those were done in person with bank checks, usually at the seller's bank with the check immediately verified.
  • You might want to consider selling it locally, if you're shipping it or crossing borders with such a large amount of "merchandise", US authorities will probably apply some sort of import tax, and bringing a big amount of cash back to Canada will likely get Canadian authorities attention.
  • I've always used escrow when doing five figure - or close to five figure - transactions.
