Non-Working Action 52

As the title states, I bought me an Action 52 that doesn't work right.

When I boot it up, it goes directly to what I assume is the title screen for Manchester Beat.  The controller doesn't do anything at this point either.

Obviously I'd like to get it working if possible before I bother with going through the return process.  Does anything look wrong with this cart?  Anything I could do?

  • The sticker to protect U3 window IC to be erased from UV seems to be removed. I think the program is erased inside it.
  • If that were the case, could the ROM be reflashed Or replaced?

What?  Looking at the photos provided and recalling my own copy of Action 52, I don't believe any chip on that board is an EPROM, as none have windows.  Where are you seeing a window?  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but any EPROM window that would have succumbed to UV should be visible behind/around the legs of the Cheetahmen on the label, and I'm just not seeing any evidence of one.

Yeah, if there were an EPROM there.  Whatever U3 is, it's not the PRG or CHR ROM, which should be the only chips on that board which contain code.

To clarify my point: On the right side, it is your copy zoomed in.

    Hopefully this will help you
  • those stickers aren't covering windows- they're probably a half assed attempt to cover part numbers. those chips are part of the mapper, and unfortunately they are programmable, and have possibly died.

I have a dead action 52 as well, although mine doesn't do anything at all. At some point I intend to pull the roms and dump them individually to compare to known dumps. I don't believe i have the hardware to dump the mapper chip, if it's even possible to read the program off of it.
