Shipping Tips?

Hey all....

I need some advice. What's the most efficient and cost-effective way to ship games? Every time I think I have it figured out, I get price gouged at the post office. Is there a best way to ship one game and then other better ways to ship multiple games? I know weight is the major factor, please help! If it helps, it's usually just NES carts.

  • One NES cart should fit in a bubble mailer and go anywhere in the US for ~$3 first class. The last one I got (yesterday) was $3.16 to ship from southern Texas to southern California. Probably using shipping labels through eBay, Paypal, or a stamp from stamps.com.

Anything over $50 or so should probably go in a box or clamshell and a few extra $$$ spent to make sure it doesn't get broken.
  • Definitely ship through PayPal or eBay. They add a small discount. I was having problems with estimating weight incorrectly when I dropped off at the counter. Now that I just throw them into a box they always seem to go through.
  • Stock up on tiny boxes. Under 16oz can be shipped via first class package service for $3-4. https://paypal.com/shipnow to print labels at home. It's free to take flat rate priority boxes, so it's handy to have them around in case priority shipping exceeds the flat rate cost.
  • Buy a scale... I use an Accutek one. I print my labels from home via Paypal. Rates are cheaper than the P.O. this way. I ship more expensive games in sturdier packaging and all that.

You need to read the details on priority shipping etc as some methods include free insurance (up to a certain $ amount). Do your research and you will not have to deal with the post office fiasco. Good luck!
