I've been thinking more about that and really I'd pay as much as I could come up with.    To that end I am offering the first (?) $100,000 bounty:   for the original art to the Contra cover.

Details including payment timing would have to be mutually agreed and the condition of the art would have to be acceptable, etc.    Some element of time payment would be needed, but I'd love to make it happen if anyone can supply the art.

Are you sure this thing even exists to begin with? People are different, as a collector/fan you think this is awesome and a grail but for a creator a draft can mean nothing more than scribbled writings on their way to the finished product. Maybe the dude himself threw it in the trashcan when he was done thinking nothing of it?

I have good reason to believe it exists

How so, is it a secret?

I hope to see some game art auctions in the near future on any random ol auction websites that may exist...

  • Reminds me when I put a bounty up for some game assets that just doesn't exist anywhere online, and nobody could find it (It's from an obscure Japanese arcade game). Granted, I only had $200... lol

My mind's probably playing tricks on me, but I swear I thought I've seen the pencil art of the Contra art (in this forum no less), but I might be thinking of a different artist/piece.

I posted some contra 3 pencils which I own.    The bounty is for the contra (1) cover.   Different items.

It does exist in all likelihood.

  • I put up a bounty for SimCity on the NES once, and now it's chilling in my gameroom. Or there was the time I kept searching for Road Kill, the lost NES homebrew, and that's also in the gameroom. I got my fingers crossed for ya, Bronty! I believe!
  • thx Christian!

Okay, so I wasn't too crazy, but again it's not what you're looking for. lol

Well, seeing that you have stuff like that to begin with erases all doubts that it exists, but the trouble is finding who has it.

The person who says the internet has ALL the knowledge and information in the world doesn't know the struggle in finding these things. However, I think you have a much better chance then I would ever have since again I've only had $200 to find my stuff. lol

So good luck, and to anyone who has any info for Bronty: Let this man furnish your new house or put your kids in college. This man needs that Contra cover ASAP.

Everything konami japanese piece prior to that date, basically.     Castle, Castle 2, stinger, rush n attack, Drac X, jackal, anything konami famicom or super famicom to 95, etc etc

When you told me about Jackal

  • Ugh. Is there anything worse than the old "I think this was for a game" pitch. Its nice enough but without anything to attach it to, its hard for me to get excited.    Still, it proves what we were talking about earlier.   There's something for every budget.    300 isn't much for a one of a kind.

It really is depressing, but my bank account isn't as upset as I am.

  • ha! yes.

(Boss avatar bro..   I'd be paying $$$$$ for that one too   )

You know, I never put two and two together about that one before, but the reason the lowest ball is blue is because of the yellow backlight from the flames (blue and yellow making green).   Deep Thoughts.   By Jack Handey.

Its tremendously sad and disappointing that so few exist, but it does make the ones that do exist more special I suppose.    That's kind of reaching for a positive spin, but it is what it is.
  • Awesome quest man, good luck!
  • Do you know what you would be looking at if one did surface? I mean, 100k... I'm an artist and could recreate this. I'm not a dick though.
  • When's the last time you held an airbrush?    Even the guys that did it every day then don't do it anymore.
