  • I want my money back.. Stupid NintendoAge banner in my game... WTF is that... I mean dammit it messes up the whole game, I see NintendoAge all thru the game now.. I can't even train without seeing NintendoAge in the background..

    /end joke

Guys, what's the deal? Why all the hate?

How about this, maybe next time, we'll just contact all of the haters and ask them to donate for the cause, seeing as you guys feel I need to comment about something you had nothing to do with... That way when there's a tiny little NA banner on the bottom you can cry yourself to sleep and actually have a reason..

Ok, I'm sorry to everyone who read my comments, but this topic has got to be to DUMBEST THING ever.. I haven't heard one person who donated complain, if I missed someone please let me know, I'll send you whatever you paid, so you won't feel cheated since there's a tiny tiny little NintendoAge banner on the title screen.

Isn't that coinheaven's site?  Didn't he make a thread on here selling them anyway?

I'd like to publicly announce that I will never donate towards any proto release ever again simply because of what this has turned into.  I didn't spend $30 so a bunch of people could run around complaining about a damn NA watermark, especially when it was mentioned in the donation thread well before even $1000 was raised.

If you weren't along for the entire process then YOU NEED TO STFU (or at least make another thread and not crap on this one) end of story.

all the repros i am making had and are going to have the NA watermark on the title screen.  this was for my own personal use.  sorry i put that up there.  ill switch the screen shot then.

  • Every party has a pooper or two... hey, as soon as they pass out, let's draw stuff on 'em! Wanna?
  • Wait, there's poop at this party? where's Jimpole?
  • We're STILL talking about this? Ugh. Can I donate to an STFU fund?

Play the game! Have fun! Throw out Mike Tyson quotes! Push a woman down the stairs! ...Wait, not that one. But the others!

I'm ashamed to say but I'm diggin the music in it!

  • Hey, that picture looks familiar.

Thanks for this, man. I just wanted to catch this comment before it got buried, but seriously every little bit helps as far as kicking people back to NintendoAge. Every new member could be another donator for future roms, another ex-employee or ex-champion, another programmer...

I appreciate that you're willing to keep the "NintendoAge" in, and I hope that the other repro guys decide the same. Apart from what's fair, which is ambiguous with an illegal rom anyways, it's just good business to keep the cycle going.
  • ^coinheaven's comment is what made me decide to pick it up from him. Very cool of him to say come back and say oops, and that NA's name is still in there.  I can't wait to give this a go on my actual NES.

no problem.  i have to admit i was a little let down when the original rom was not released, but not enough to complain about it.  i was more psyched it got released.  in general i prefer to have unaltered roms, but its not that big a deal.  i know alot of people hate the whining, but when you collect prototype roms, it is kind of like getting a game off ebay and the case is scratched.  you are kind of miffed, but its no biggie.

I agree 100%. I don't personally need the entire ROM intact to enjoy the game, as long as 50 years from now the clean version of the game isn't lost forever I'm perfectly satisfied.
  • Hi Frank, not in Vegas anymore? Glad to see you around these parts, hope you can hang out here more.

Great observation, Kitsune Sniper! I actually happen to own a copy of that Mike Tyson comic book and must say that it's quite an amusing read hehe image.

The art work for Power Punch II/Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch appears to be a combination of the above Mike Tyson comic book cover and the following Mike Tyson photo:

  • Awesome. I'm sure that ROM will be everywhere in no time.
  • WOW, I can't tell you how shocked I was when I came across the news that Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch had been released to the public! I read all about it here of course, but had absolutely no idea that any of this had even been in the works lol! I feel so useless image.

I had been absent from NintendoAge for over a month and as soon as I got back here, I could not believe my eyes! Thank you to EVERY single person who made this a reality, I cannot thank you enough!!!!!!!!!! image

Just out of curiosity when did you all join up to bring Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch out of obscurity? I would have definitely joined you had I known about it beforehand! However, I will definitely be contributing/donating to future releases, in order to make up for my previous absence!

I actually have some history with trying to acquire a piece of this game. About two years ago I had messaged Jason (DreamTR) at digitpress.com about information pertaining to this game that I could include in my Power Punch II FAQ. My curiosity spiked naturally, and I wanted to view footage of the entire game, or get to play through it myself.

I obviously lacked the finances to purchase the original prototype and Jason stated that selling me a copy of the ROM would be too risky, understandably so, even though I'm an honest guy. He had been burned it the past, so I could understand his case and appreciated all of his help and left it at that, moving on to other things, "life goes on", as the saying goes.

Anyway, it's been almost two years since that time and I am really pleased with the way that everything worked out image. This way everyone gets a piece of the game, while Jason gets to keep one of his most prized video gaming possessions, so everyone wins!

  • I have already dowloaded the ROM of course and being a Power Punch II expert, I was obviously able to detect all of the differences and there are PLENTY! Not only have some of the names of the opponents been changed, but so have most of their fighting patterns! There is even more time to train between fights, an extra 10 seconds in fact, which isn't necessarily a good thing image.

I will be having a blast updating my FAQ with all of the differences between the unreleased and released versions, but not as much with playing the game, I actually prefer Power Punch II at this point lol!

As for finishing this game, I will also take a jab at that once I get a copy of the repro cart from Bunnyboy at RetroZone (thank you for making these dude!). While I was able to dominate Power Punch II, humiliating the game with an all 1st Round victories speed run, I will unfortunately not be able to do the same with this one by the looks of it image.

You see, that mofo by the name of Fly-Mo, who just so happens to be the final opponent in the game, was originally designed to get back to his feet after being knocked down once with the four power punch combination oddly enough. In Power Punch II he stays down for the count, but in Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch, he does not, so it will be extremely difficult to knock him down four times for the KO.

Mike Tyson winning the heavyweight championship of the Universe by decision wouldn't look right, so I will do my best to make it an all knockout run!

Speaking of not looking right, what's up with Beam Software giving Mike Tyson pink lining on his black boxing trunks and pink gloves to boot?! I had previously thought that those colors were exclusively reserved for Mark Tyler in Power Punch II, but was obviously wrong!

This isn't the first time that Mike has been seen with some pink on him though. Over a year ago he was forced to wear pink handcuffs and pink socks while serving time in jail:

    image

Now, I have nothing against the color pink. Bret "Hit Man" Hart wore pink and is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. It just looks unfitting to have Mike wearing pink on his boxing trunks, as he is not Bret Hart, he is Mike Tyson, the all black fighter with the old school look and style. Ah whatever, I just hope to be able to make Mike mop the floor with these intergalactic freaks image.

Very cool image  Thanks to theredeye for spreading the word a little.

  • I watched a documentary on Mike and it was one of the sadest things I have seen. His life was really f'ed up and people just kept taking advantage of him. Granted hes not the smartest guy around but no one really deserves what he got. Hes like a little kid, he has no idea what hes supposed to do or should do.

BTW, Nice job on the game! I suck at it lol.
  • Here's another article with link to NA, from what appears to be Finland...

Actually, both my comic's cover, the Power Punch II cover art, and the repro art were traced from this picture:

The gloves and belt match almost exactly. image
  • Yep, nice find, Kitsune Sniper! I have seen that photo before as well. I think that if the game had been released when Mike was still the heavyweight champion of the world, the picture with him wearing the belt would have been used.

It would have made a lot more sense for this game to have been released prior to Mike's first lost to James "Buster" Douglas. Having a former champion from earth taking on the best that the universe has to offer, makes very little sense. What on earth were they thinking? image

Power Punch II plays out more like a what if story and is somewhat more respectable, as Mark Tyler has yet to lose.

  • I've been reading a lot of skepticism through the user submitted comments on these news sites and youtube. Seems like a significant percentage of people believe this ROM is an April Fool's joke!

I noticed you called out Kotaku on the lack of an NA mention, Kitsune Sniper. Nice!
  • Thanks to everyone who donated to make it possible for the rest of us to play this! I am a huge Punch-Out!! fan and it's neat to see this interesting piece of... sh..history image But seriously, games like this need to be dumped and shared before they are lost forever. I have always been a fan of the MAME dumpers too. I know some of the older games were literally failing AS they were dumping them! Scarey stuff.

btw.. I assume X-Cult stole the NA version and hexed out the NA credit from the intro, calling it "corrupt"? What asses (if I am right that is)

    http://www.x-cult.org/newsx/fullnews.php?id=196

Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Rapist is now up for download. This version has been fixed from the corrupted version that was released.
