What does your woman think?

  • My ex gf hates it because she thinks I have no life ;_;
  • ^is that why she's your ex gf?
  • She calls me a geek but I have tons of games she loved as a child so she always wants to play them.
  • Well, I'm friends with a few girls that digg my collection, but none of them are my gf :/ ... yet
  • Oh god no. My gf hates nearly all videogames. HATES them. One of her most common lines is "How can someone so intelligent waste their time with these things?" I try to explain that I see them as art, which I do, and collecting games is like trying to preserve art...art that's fun as hell.

Despite her reservations, she is very accommodating about it however...letting me use more than half of our home to display games on shelves and to store bins full of em. We've lived together for about 2 years now, and I've slowly extracted the fact that she is a pacifist so she really opposes the violence and sexism in most games. Fair enough. That being said. she does see the fun and artistry in games like LBP, Sonic, most Nintendo and the like so I have hope.

But at the end of the day, I'm the laid back nerdy type who enjoys the inane who ended up with sophisticated college Valedictorian (seriously) who has trouble seeing the value in mindlessness.

The eternal debate keeps things hot though, lol.
  • First off, startyde, <3 The Maxx. <img src=/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

My fiancee likes to play video games a good bit, but hates the fact that I'll pick up any old thing I come across and horde it in the house. I've been working on maintaining a wire-clean entertainment center view and keeping extra accessories/wires out of sight, but I know it still bugs her. Her Mom is a horrible pack rat and she had to deal with That growing up.
  • my girlfriend helps me 50% of the time. if im paying for a game online, she helps me pay for it and even helps type the message. when i get a package in the mail, she helps me carry it inside and even open it up. she even helps me play the games. she is awesome. she knows just what i like!!! she is sooooo attached to me too!!! i will NEVER get rid of her!!!
  • The wife, "You're a nerd. When are you going to stop this?" Me, "Never and when are we going to get rid of our china cabinet? I need to make room for the arcade cab I'm going to build." She always laughs like it's a joke, but someday the joke will be on her!!!

does she help take pictures of your balls? or is that just you and the mirror?
  • Especially when you make the Arcade Cabinet out of China Cabinet.
  • Start your engines. The day I die it will ALL hit the tree lawn. I'd love to see the scramble that would cause !!
  • Lauren said I was a nerd. image But Mia is interested in my collection. =D

I just wanted to second the Maxx love. One of the best comics ever. (Until he lost it after the original story was told.) I wish they'd put a DVD out of the cartoon.

I like your avatar too, sfchakan. Any time I see it I just can't help but think "Banananana".

I like the cut of your jib, OCM. You've got good tastes.

  • My wife said it was "cute", and is very supportive of it (ex. not giving me shit when I spend a lot image) She is also helping me come up with ideas for a future game area to store everything.
  • My parents got a divorce when I was 6 because my dad was spending more time on his games than time with my mum...

... or so she says. I'm sure there's problems between those two which I don't even want to hear about.
  • My girlfriend bought me a PowerPak for my birthday a few years ago, so I guess she wouldn't be too upset if I got back into collecting.
  • My wife thought it was cool at first, and a lot of fun.  I gave it up for a while, and I'm now getting back into it.  After all these years she still appreciates the collection, but when she sees the amount of money I spend, she thinks it could be spent on other things.
I guess she's still supporting my addiction.
  • I have been with my girlfriend longer than I've been collecting and I've been collecting for 5 years.? When I had 50 games she thought it was cool. Then somewhere around....400 or 500 games she was questioning this pastime a lot. I had to show her the really fun ones and what some of these things are worth to kinda justify the money I spend. All my friends do call me a dork, girlfriend included. I tell them that's fine but I'm the coolest fucking dork they know. Now with over 1000 different video games me and my girlfriend have spent many a whole day just sitting together playing video games. She is picky and it took awhile to figure out what type of games she enjoys but that was 2 years ago. So now she understands my collecting and we enjoy playing together often. It could not be any better. Thanx RASK1904
  • My wife doesn't MIND it, but she wants to make sure that I do my darndest (sp?) to come out even. Every once in a while, I'll just buy something, but more often than not, I have to sell something. We just had a baby about 3 months ago, though, so she's been a little more freaked out about money. She did stop at a garage sale once and bought me an NES with controllers and such. I was pretty stoked about it!
  • My wife hates it. She refers to posting in video game forums as 'chatting with my nerds'. No offense, everyone. To be fair, I wouldn't want to shoe shop for longer than 1 minute total in my lifetime, so I understand.
  • She understands even though she almost never plays anything. The same understanding goes to my old beemer and all the muscle cars I drool over when ever I see one. She understands why I like it/them, even if she doesn't like them herself.
  • lets give it up for game girls -woop-woop haha
  • I said it before.. I am the woman. However Steve likes it as much as I do. He even bought me a Flintstones 2 while I was in the hospitial last month. Good man that one.
