Super Game Boy 2 - TOO perfect?

Hey guys, hoping someone can quell my worry. I picked up a brand new Super Game Boy 2 off ebay, and it just arrived. It's absolutely beautiful in how new it looks. Zero marks, it's basically perfect.

Almost... TOO perfect...

Can anyone take a look at my photos and be like "Gloves you got a good deal it's all good, no bootleg here!" to verify that it's all good? Or let me know if I got bamboozled so I can get my money back?

Here's an album of photos: https://imgur.com/a/1VPrW

Thanks!

  • I'm no expert on the matter, but I think you're good. Looks very nice, no doubt!
  • Looks just like mine (also NIB). Inserts and all. Mine came with a baggy, though.

Mine had a baggy, I just forgot to upload the photo with the inner container and baggy. Also all pristine. xD
  • All the ones I saw while in Japan last year looked perfect. Brought one back with me, along with an Japanese SGB1. In general, their game stores have a lot of really nice condition stuff. I get the impression that most people in Japan just take better care of things.

Almost all of it is dirt cheap too. I remember seeing the SGB2 sold on multiple import sites back in the mid-2000s, "brand new" for like $20. Seems they had a surplus of them. I'm sure the Pokémon craze is the reason they revised the SGB for Super Famicom even after the N64 has already launched, and probably also why they made so many.
  • Totally fake. I'll take it off your hands for $2.

But seriously though, I dunno what it is, but Japanese people seemed to take much better care of their stuff. I wouldn't worry about it
  • So... what is a Super Gameboy 2? Does this do GBC?

    nope.

Has a link cable port, and more accurate to the gameboy. The original one went to fast or too slow or something

It does not. It's essentially the same as the original SGB, but plays games at the correct speed, and has a link cable slot. Those are the key differences.
  • Ah, alright. NA was my first time hearing about this cart but I never looked into it. Good to know.
  • A fake Super Gameboy 2 would be pretty cool. Whoever made it could fake a Retrovision for me so I can play Game Boy on NES!
  • A link cable slot - wow. Might have to snag one of these myself.
  • Yeah its pretty awesome!

To update you all, I've asked a few other places and the general consensus here and there is that the Japanese take better care of their things, lol.

To be fair, on ebay it WAS labeled as being "brand new" and unopened. So I mean... By all rights I got what I should have expected. It was just such a great price, and is so flawless (many more on eBay in worse condition for more money) that I started to worry a bit.

I'm loving it so far, it works absolutely beautifully. If you play Game Boy games, and want to play them on the TV, THIS is your solution. Buy this thing, it's awesome.
  • This condition is almost standard for everything GB related I've bought from Japan...
  • 90% of the stuff I've purchased from Japan is almost too perfect. They know how to take care of their stuff. An American eBay listing for A+ condition would be a D- in Japan.

    Nice get!
  • Bamboozled..........Flim flammed!!! :-) Looks okay
  • Get yourself a Commander controller to use with it.
  • My SGB2 was also basically brand new. I love it. It works great and everything runs as it should.
  • Mine was the same condition. Got a brand new SGB2 and a brand new SBG Commander controller and both are wonderful.
  • Oh yeah. Of all the things I got in Japan last year, my Hori SGB Commander controller was the exception. Some of the rubber pads were torn and I had to clean the contacts and pads inside for some of the others to work at all.

Interestingly, the rubber sheets inside appeared to be cut-up from a standard Super Famicom controller. Maybe they were having some production issues at some point.
  • What I thought when I saw the title and subtitle...
