common problems with snes games

I'm looking to see if anyone knows if there are certain games that tend to have a high failure rate of working anymore? I ask because either I have really horrible luck or it maybe a underlying problem with this game at this point. So I have bought two copies of ninja warriors for the snes and I have had both copies not boot up. I've opened up both games and given them my standard cleaning that I do with any games that get played in my system and in both cases these games wont play. Ive tested it out on the retron 5 and when it didnt boot I went up into my game room and tested it out on my original snes. With no luck both copies havent worked on either systems. I find this really strange because over all my years of collecting and playing I have had maybe a total of 6 or 7 games that would never work. Those games are all justified for not working because they were really put through the ringer and no matter how much cleaning I did nothing was going to get them to work. The unique thing about both ninja warriors is that the pins on both have been really clean and shouldnt be causing these problems. I'm just really dumb struck by these current events, heck Ive probably cleaned and tested easily a couple of thousand games over the years and to have 6 or 7 failures is extremely low. I just find this super curious that it is now twice on the same game with such a low failure rate. I feel at this point I am destined not to have this game in my snes collection. lol. If you have any opinions or thoughts it would be appreciated.

  • Sound like the contacts are very dirty. I once had to use super lite grit 800 sandpaper on a Mega Man X cart as a last stage of hope and then it worked like a charm. Now this is extreme but at this point what do you have to loose
  • That's the strange thing these pins aren't dirty, they've been really clean.
  • there's a genesis game (grindstormer?) that's know to have a high rate of failure due to board issues. can't say i've heard of any issues with ninja warriors. i do happen to have a ninja warriors i repaired but the board/pins were visibly damaged. fortunately the rom chip is usually fine and you can swap it to a clean, working board. if you want to see about getting yours fixed i'd be happy to check it out.
