Help is this a degaussing issue?

I picked up a sony 24 inch Trinitron today and super jazz! When I started to play it looks like like my picture. Kind of bummed. My question is do y'all think this is just a TV that needs to be degaussed or something else? Thank you

  • It might need a recap. You should try posting on reddit.com/r/crtgaming/ - you will usually get pointed in the right direction on there when it comes to crt.
  • Might be a pincushion adjustment in the service menu.
  • Convergence convergence convergence. Look up service menu.
  • Thank you all for the info
  • After reading up on this I think I will just deal with it until I find another. I'm out of continues on my life!
  • This is not that hard to fix, you just spend an evening getting most of it; you access the service menu with a few remote button combinations and then you adjust a grid.
  • Ok gotcha I found at neogeo.com a list of codes to use in the service menu which I'm going to try. I first looked up convergence a crt and saw something about using a screwdriver to adjust the guns inside which I was not anout to try. Thank you
  • I can't tell much from picture but a degaussing issue is when reds and blues are prevalent on parts of the screen normally around the corners. I actually made a deguassing coil using a old coil out of a 15" computer monitor and doubling it up and wiring a light bulb socket in before the wall plug so as to be able to change the amount of the magnetic field by using different watt light bulbs. I used 100 watt bulb and fixed a 19" that way by waving it around in a circular pattern in front of the screen. Lightening stuck years ago and had made image discolored and little did I know at the time how easy a fix it is with a coil. Internet was very helpful.
  • Whatever you do, be REALLY careful digging around on the inside of old CRT's. These are very high voltage devices, and can kill if you get shocked by one! Just make sure you know what you are doing and take the proper precautions before going in.

Exactly. Don't tip anything with finger use rubber handled tool and NEVER have but 1 hand at a time in it.
  • Ok, show of hands who read the title as "Help is this a disgusting issue?"
