Ms. Pac-Man NES

alright, kind of a specific request.

What i'm looking for is a copy of Tengen Ms. Pac-Man for the NES in a gray shell. I know this wasn't released.

So i'd prefer to get a standard gray cart, an authentic Ms Pac-Man board from the black shell game inserted inside, and a label made that looks legit, but that fits said shell.

Anyone able to do this with a quick turn around? Quote me a price and let's make a deal!

  • I have to ask why do you want this when namco grey cart version exist? I would think to get the coolest looking label on a traditional cart. I own both games & have played the tengen version a lot but don't remember playing namco version. Are they the same game?

Tengen version offers way more options, like co-op. Namco version is just the arcade version.

  • Yeah, the grey one should exist... it's just a pain to find sometimes.

Well, the gray Namco version exists, but the Tengen version was only officially released in the black, third party Tengen shells only.  As mentioned previously in the thread, there's a world of difference between the two versions due to the plethora of options featured on the Tengen version that the Namco totally lacks.

Correct, kinda like how they treated the different versions of Tetris.

I guess if someone wanted a Tengen with it's options in the grey style carts, That would be an interesting repro, but I would like to see one done ethically if all possible (Tetris one too while we're at it)

this is what I'm shooting for. i guess we'll see how it works out
  • It might be tough to do a Tengen licensed style label, as there were a few differences from the unlicened label (no gold, for one.)

Might have to alter the Sega Genesis boxart.

  • that's a good call. I'm gonna have to try my hand at photoshopping my own label later this week.
  • Ended up Frankenstein'ing this together myself. Here's some pics:

donor cart: Bandai Golf (picked up for $1)

took some slight trimming of the cart and board, but:

final pic. edges aren't quite on point, and the end label (not pictured) doesn't look perfect, but i'm pretty happy with how it turned out:

  • Now all you need is a Tengen label for Bandai Golf.
  • How did you do the label? That looks pretty cool.
  • just used photoshop. started with the tengen label, faked in the bottom from a pacman gray tengen cart, and copied the side from a genesis box, as someone suggested above.

got it printed on glossy card stock, and here we are!

    d'oh!

i knew i should've scrolled back up before i hit reply!

but seriously, thanks for the idea. it really worked out well IMO.

  • Back when I had carts I wanted to do the same but with FANTASY ZONE great to see that it was indeed possible
  • I would actually consider doing that with the Sunsoft Fantasy Zone. It's better than the Tengen version.
  • if you wanted to do the board right, you could have someone put the tengen chips on a donor nintendo nrom board. there's no mapper required, and the chips would drop right in.

I bought this monster off of Ebay a while ago. Board is legit, not sure what to do with her. Ha.

Dude, that cart rocks! I love this 'a life lived' look, that's a Tengen Tetris cart I would have a beer with right there, lol!

If you don't want it, I'll take it off your hands!

I wonder how something like that came about. Did they break the Tengen shell?

The story in the Ebay ad was it was from a rental store. The original shell got cracked badly, so they took a cheapo game and created this monster. No clue what the donor was.

  • That's both horrifying and amazing at the same time. lol
  • I would clean up the old residue from the other lablel and rock it like that, that is one cool cart
