Virtual Boy Grinding

I had my Virtual Boy repaired about... a year ago? to fix the lens issue.  Worked great, and left it alone.  It has been sitting on my shelf since then.  I go to play it today, and I see a little bit of motion through the lenses and an almost grinding sound coming from inside.  Any ideas on what it could be?  Maybe something left inside from the repair blocking the mirrors?

    do you see distortion in the picture like its streching out?

    Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. I see the movement in the console (possibly the lenses going to their spots), then there is the grinding sound, then more movement (lenses going back to off position?). I can't play anything.
