Nintendo Switch Kiosk Guts?

I have been frequenting Toy R Us as they have been starting the liquidation process. I have noticed that in the local TRU the Switch kiosk has had the monitor and touch screen removed. I am curious if anyone knows how these kiosks work and what all they are taking out. Update: I looked inside one of the gutted kiosk and found some paperwork. I thought some of you mite be interested in it.

  • I have an idea of how they work, I got to see first hand the wiring for it a while back because the lock was broken on one at a local toys r us. If I remember correctly, there is a power strip on the inside for the tv, and lamp/LEDs that is on the side, along with the console. Nintendo would probably be taking the hardware (console, controllers, and unit used to play the short movies before the console was installed)being that the kiosks are purchased, but the console and such is rented. Same thing with the Wii U kiosks.

Thanks for the info. The two I have personally seen had advertisements placed over the empty holes that were left buy the two screens. I really want a kiosk badly, and I am trying to figure out how hard it is going to be to piece one together.

Do you have parts for it already? And if anything just make parts like I did for my Wii U kiosk.
  • These don't take game carts do they? Purely downloaded demos? So will the 3ds be the last nintendo system with physical demo / not for resale cartridges?

There are physical Switch games, of course. I'm not sure whether they have made physical demo versions for the Switch, though, it would probably make more sense just to download them these days.

No I don’t have any parts yet. With the WiiU many of the parts came through electronic recycling centers. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to get one of the shells as TRU liquidates. I have not seen your WiiU build.

Edit: After taking a quick peak at your build thread,  I don’t think that is the direction I would go. I would try to get at close to original as possible.

According to the paperwork I uploaded, it looks like the raspberry pi is updated via jump drive. It may be possible to get ahold of one of those. I don’t know how the Switch portion works.

I am curious if anyone has information about the raspberry pi tablet used in these kiosks.
  • This is how it is. My store still has the kiosk but our Nintendo rep took the screen and the pi. I have the keys and dibs on the kiosk but am not sure I want to put in the trouble. I can get you pics and more info if needed. Just hit me up. Any collectors around Spartanburg S.C. that would really like it I can make it happen.
  • I just picked up a kiosk, does anyone know where I can find a bracket to mount the TV? Would any wall mount work?
  • I wish you knew how a scanner worked
  • I was able to get some dimensions for the bracket, just need to take it to a metal worker to see if I can get one made for a decent price.
  • Did u find a way to get the tv on this thing ?
  • I picked one up this weekend when the local GameStop closed. I made a bracket to hold an extra 32" Samsung TV I had. I would really like to get my hands on the disk image from the Raspberry Pi that is in these.

  • Anyone know a Nintendo Retail Rep? The people who actually set up these Kiosks? I wonder if there is some way to get a disk image from the raspberry pi in these.
  • So I recorded some of the the PI footage in a Nintendo Kiosk:

It looks to be the same videos from Nintendo's Youtube channel but with subtitles baked into the video.

I bought the following to make my own version, it should fit right into the kiosk:

    Tablet Case:
    Touch Screen:
    Pi 3 B+
Here are some videos on how to make a kiosk from a Pi. It's basically a browser without a address bar.

  • my discord group has pi images for this. pm me for link
  • Thanks werejag!!! I send you a PM!!!

Also, I picked up a Switch this weekend and installed it in the Kiosk. It's really nice
