I rarely pay any attention to their polls, actually I don't ever enter the site through the main page, got it bookmarked at my message board index for convenience.
But if I were to pick amongst what's listed:
Donkey Kong (even though its not really amongst my favorite of games, but I've played it quite a bit and have been starting to enjoy it somewhat compared to years ago, Punch-Out is awesome, but its been ages since I've really played this game, Space Invaders has never been fun, and Tetris while I've played it a lot isn't ever really much fun mainly because I suck at those type of games)
Megaman 2 (because all the others are simply boring or in the case of Pac-Man I've only ever enjoyed the 2600 version of, all well, hell, Megaman blows those other games away anyway)
Super Mario Bros. (the game that got me hooked on the NES to begin with, I rarely touch the game anymore, but still have just as much respect for it as when I first played and enjoyed it, never been a fan of Ninja Gaiden until part 3, and the other 2 just aren't varied enough on gameplay)
Metroid (tough one, all 4 are really good, but platforming with exploration wins, if it were Zelda II instead of Legend of Zelda I'd have picked that one over Metroid though)
I don't pay attention to GameFAQ polls either, they are HEAVILY RPG biased due to the nature of the site. Just watch how many RPGs make it to the top of the list when this is done.
Hopefully I don't jinx myself, but I'm at 100% so far, and it looks like I'll come out on top today as well.
Wow, way to go arch. I'll be looking for your name on the leaderboard (is it also arch_8ngel?). What do you have for tomorrows picks?

Apparently FF7 won this same contest 5 years ago, but I could see Zelda OoT winning this time around. Aren't people nuts over Super Smash Bros as well?
Tomorrow I have Zelda, obviously taking 1st, and Contra for the #2 spot. That is probably a risk over the more familiar household name of Metroid...but it IS a better game on the NES.

Ding ding ding!! FF7 will win again, like I said GameFAQs is heavily RPG biased.
Day 3: My choices came through. Finally. SMB was the obvious winner, as it should be (truly revolutionary game).
For my bracket, I chose Zelda (first) and Metroid (second). I voted for Metroid, just because I think Zelda will need no help in winning it.
I know I'll likely be totally off with my choices tomorrow. I have Street Fighter 2 (first) and Sonic (second). Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I think Civ will come in last, and although Castlevania 3 is a great game, I'm wondering what kind of following it has, and if players will see it as a better choice than the rest.
Oh well...I fell off the heap yesterday, having picked Contra over Metroid. I should have known better since Metroid is the more familiar name, despite Contra actually be a better game than the first iteration of the Metroid series.
It looks like I had the right choices when I picked Street Fighter 2 & Sonic. Too bad I had the wrong order. I played Sonic once in my life on a college roommate's Genesis. I always used to see Sega as the bad guy, and I think it was all their negative anti-Nintendo advertising they used to do. It made me incredibly loyal to Nintendo (my systems are NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Wii - I briefly owned a PS1 simply to play FF7 & Metal Gear Solid).
Also, I did pick SMB 3, which turned out to be the correct choice (SMB3 tends to be either #1 or #2 on every single Top NES list I've seen). Secret of Monkey Island? That's a game I have not experienced, and maybe it's one I should check into. Somehow it beat out SimCity AND Tecmo Super Bowl, so it definitely caught my attention.
My picks are Super Mario World and Final Fantasy for today. I loved playing through Prince of Persia fairly recently. I'm a big fan of that type of platformer (the ones that have 'realistic looking running').
I completely messed up for tomorrow's poll. I recently played the real Final Fantasy 2 on NES, and had that in mind when I saw Final Fantasy II (IV). Since NES FF2 doesn't have a big fanbase, I chose River City Ransom & Crystalis as my picks, but FF2(IV) is going to be the obvious winner.
I think you have to have a today's generation mindset in order to win something like this, the classics, unless they are still alive and strong today, don't stand a chance. And RPG's particular Final Fantasy will almost always come out on top, or nearest the top.
Well...count me out. I've had a couple of bad picks that go too far into my bracket
Well? What were they? I've been sharing what my picks have been.
And even though the polls don't mean much, with the finals being a bunch of RPG's, it doesn't mean we can't talk about the games. I'd like to hear which games people have played, opinions, etc. From todays poll:
Battletoads - I picked this one up late. I conquered it by warping and using the 5 life code. Such a variety of gameplay too (brawler, vehicle riding, race to the bottom, climbing the spinning tower, etc). Super tough, but you just have to work at it.
Final Fantasy - Nintendo Power got me so interested in this one. I think it was my first game that I had to raise character levels and I loved the grinding. I found out the hard way that weapons and armor have to be equipped for them to take effect, hehe. Warmech was supposed to be hard to find, but I didn't find any difficulty.
Prince of Persia - It was great figuring out certain puzzles, and the sword fighting. I loved the first segment where you have to navigate your way to the sword.
Super Mario World - I was the first in the area to get a Super Nintendo, and I logged in tons of hours on this game. Eventually I went for a perfect game, finding every special exit and unlocking every area.
Crystalis - I didn't enjoy this one as much as most people do. I have no idea why, it's a solid game with lots of collectibles. Maybe I got tired of the grinding a little.
Final Fantasy 2 (IV) - This is the most emotional game I ever played on the SNES. I think (actually, I KNOW) it's because it was my first experience with game characters dying/turning to stone/leaving your party. Plus, the soundtrack did so well at setting the mood. I maybe liked FF3 just as much, but not more.
Mega Man 3 - I bought this one brand new at a store when it came out, and it's the most I ever paid for a NES game - somewhere around $55! I thought the difficulty was incredibly high in comparison to MM2.
River City Ransom - I tried it eventually, but I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. People love this game, and I while I thought it was fun, it didn't blow me away (I had played plenty of SNES brawlers by the time I tried this one).
As far as the poll goes - I chose Super Mario Kart and Super Metroid for tomorrow's picks. I'll probably get hosed, but I'm going with the games that I know and love.
my 1st bad call was choosing Contra over Metroid. I think I went into detail above, but my feeling is that Contra is actually a better game overall than the original Metroid.
I completely fell apart in the second bracket:
Day 5: chose SF2 for the win (it came in second) and Civilization for 2nd. I should have known better. Probably 90% of the people voting have never played or heard of Civilization
Day 6: Correctly picked SMB3 (it was a no brainer) but chose sim city over whatever else won. I never really got into Monkey Island so I guess I didn't have a good basis for comparison.
Day 7: Incorrectly picked FF1 for first place (made a bad assumption regarding the FF fanboys on Gamefaqs...guess they couldn't hold their own against the Mario fanboys). And took a risk on Battletoads that didn't pan out. Overall I should have known better
Day 8: When I made my bracket I misread the FF2 as being FF2 on the NES (which is TERRIBLE). So instead I chose Crystalis to win and MM3 as second. I guess I got second place correct, at least.
If you caught my comment, I made that exact same mistake (mistook FF2 as being FF2 on the NES). I think my mistake was due to recently playing FF2 on the NES.
I'm hoping someone else is interested in at least discussing the games. Anyone?
Gunstar Heroes & Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - I have no experience with these.
Super Mario Kart - played this just the other day with my nephew. I was so rusty (once I won gold medals throughout the whole game, but now I looked like an amateur). We did some battle mode, and I won in a 'first to 10 wins' match. So fun, and he was so close to beating me too.
Super Metroid - This was a fantastic experience the first time through. To me, it had all the excitement of the first Metroid experience. Running with the super speed for the first time was so fun, as well as the first super jump. It loses it's impact on the second playthrough unfortunately.
To me, Sonic 3 is just a souped up rehash of Sonic 1 and 2. It's nothing special as far as I'm concerned.
I've never played Gunstar Heroes.
I used to love Super Mario Kart...but it feels really dated now, in a bad way. Having gotten used to Mario Kart Wii, the original is just so freaking slow and clunky.
Super Metroid is my pick for the best game overall. It really perfected a genre.
For tomorrow's poll I picked Zelda and Doom. DKC might pull it off over Doom, but it's a vastly inferior game concept that really didn't have much in the way of originality beyond the graphics and 12-layer parallax.
I can't believe how close the votes are for Super Metroid & Super Mario Kart - 23415 to 23452 right now.
I have picked Zelda followed by DKC tomorrow. I guess that is a tough one. Just seems like so many DKC fans out there, but I can't say I browse any FPS websites.
Yeah, but Doom defined a genre. DKC, while fun and graphically exciting, didn't really innovate much of anything.
I'm really surprised that there is a close contest at all between Super Metroid and Super Mario Kart. The latter isn't even in remotely the same league.

For today's matchup, I voted Super Mario Bros.
These contests are always so predictable though, so I'm not sure why I still participate. It seems like a huge waste of time.
