My usual criteria for amazing NES music is being able to listen to it for about twenty minutes on end without getting tired of it (straight listening, not while playing). If I can still think and get into a zone while it is on, then it is a keeper. I usually sit in silence and cannot think with noise, but these ones tend to work for me. They're also ones that I find myself humming or whistling, and then wondering what they are from.
Battle Kid 1 & 2
Ducktales
Exodus: Ultima III
Larry
Legacy of the Wizard
Lizard
Mega Man III
Moon Crystal
Study Hall
Anything by Memblers, except that one weird surfing song and its many renditions
I like a lot of the blaster master stage songs. i hum them sometimes at work lol. Battletoads pause music is also tight. Ninja gaiden always got me amped up too.
Most Mega Man and the first 2 Contras have always been some of my favorites. Good enough to make me wonder why video game music isn't really understood as "real" music and a genuine art form
