Game & Watch photos needed for MAME

Hi, does anyone have a semi-pro portable studio and Game & Watch collection?

MAME emulates a few LCD handhelds now including Nintendo Game & Watch. The list is growing but at the moment they support-

Boxing, Donkey Kong II, Donkey Kong Jr, Mario Bros, Mario's Cement Factory, Mickey & Donald, Mickey Mouse, Egg, Super Mario Bros.

The backgrounds for all of these games have been scanned but some have not like Egg / Mickey Mouse (which seems to be the same). These 2 games also need the LCD layer rescanning.

But the reason I came here was to see if anyone could use a reliable setup to photo the handhelds. These can be used as extternal artwork. The ones you generallly find on google, ebay etc aren't ideal. They need to be good quality to last, clear and straight. The backdrop and screen areas will be cut out and both re-inserted as seperate layers. No need to shoot the back, sides, boxes, instructions or closed. Just the front.

I don't have a single game or even a good camera. So what I've been doing is trying to find the best images I could online or vector them but it's a lot of work and 2nd to good photos. Here's a few I've done, some with animated buttons. To use them you'd obviously need to setup MAME (the latest one) and matching rom names (which I can't give). These artwork zips go in the MAME/artwork folder and roms go in the MAME/roms folder. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IbSRYTfKoKDgZfJZTZdnKFSpBvCvgJZV

If anyone can help out, please let me know!

Cheers.

  • Excellent work, preserving these old LCD games. I've seen so many these days with leaking displays or just entirely non-functioning, it really is only a matter of time before a lot of these old games are lost for good! I am really supportive, in spirit, of your efforts, but alas cannot physically help you as I don't actually own any Game and Watches. Hopefully there will be a few good guys around here who can put the effort in to help you.
  • Thanks for the encouragement   Emulation will be invaluable one day. I can't take any credit for the dumping or emulation though. It seems to be quite technical and way above me but thankfully there's people who know what they're doing.

I didn't mention, but they also have Tiger Electronics and Konami handhelds working so there's also other art which is sought-after, but usually just the units. When they take them apart they usually scan the backgrounds just except Egg for some reason. There's probably a few Konami that could be improved too. But it's always an ongoing process.
