Question About a Weird SNES/NES Charger

I am prepared to sound completely dumb, but I have never run accross a charger like this. Its a Nintendo brand dual charger for NES and SNES. I know that there are plenty of 3rd party chargers that are similiar, but I was not aware of Nintendo making an official double charger. Anybody have information on this item?

  • Model number SNS-002 is a standard SNES power adapter. The forum destroys detail when it resizes an image. Can you get a close-up shot of where the NES cord comes out? I'm thinking this is a custom modification.
  • Its pretty wicked! I wanna see if it can power both consoles at the same time.

    Same here

  • Here is a pick of where the cords come out. And yes, I just checked and it can run two systems at the the same time. Kinda cool.

  • Yeah, you can tell it's a custom job. The cutting on the left where the cable connects is a bit rough. Not sure if the innards are official or not, it could be from those dual aftermarket adapters.

Probably good to power on one or the other, but not sure how safe it is to power both for an extended period of time.
  • I'd be interested in measuring the voltage while both consoles are loading it at the same time.

Agreed, but I like how this hacker thinks.  I'd love to see how good/bad the hack job looks on the inside.

But there's a chance doing that might damage the adapter or the consoles, no? It would be running with twice (or near twice) as much load compared to what it was designed for. Anyways cool hack job!
  • If it had higher amps then it would be safe to power both at the same time.

They did? It would be nice to have a one outlet occupied solution when these plugs are so bulky and take up so much room

  • Kind of irrelevant point to add to this discussion, but thought I'd throw it in!

Did you know that the power adaptors to the PAL NES and PAL SNES are identical, both outputting the same AC power with the same dimension barrel connector? Obviously you can only power one at a time, but no need to change the plug when you want to play either system!

    How convenient, and irrelevant lol!

Japanese Famicom and Super Famicom both shared the same AC adapter. I've read that Nintendo didn't even include an adapter with the Super Famicom because they expect you to use the one from your Famicom.

I was thinking the same. That is, unless whoever modded it took that into consideration and made it capable to run multiple consoles. I've seen that done with Sega Genesis/CD/32X 3 in 1 adapters, so it's possible.

But of course, as you said, if it's not made that way it's best to proceed with caution. There's no telling what's inside that brick.
