I'm about to throw theese damn n64 controllers out the window!

I can’t get a nice snap out of the Z button for the life of me. 



Replaced the joystick and am having a hell of a time with the reassembly. The Z button is soft upon pressing it. 



I got it right once and it looks like there are a couple of tabs on the bottom case of the controller that have to line up magically perfect in order to get a nice functioning Z button. 



Any help would be appreciated. Before I step on them. Lol.

    I disassemble a lot and I usually don't encounter this, but I did have this problem recently with a really stubborn controller. I don't remember what I ultimately had to do.

    It's the little ribbon cable getting pinched when you close up the controller. It doesn't look like it's in the way, but it is. Bend it out of the way so that it will clear when you close up the shell and you'll be fine.

    Man, N64 Z buttons are squishy at the best of times! I'd hate to feel a soft one...
