NES Zapper Gun

Hey guys.

I recently got a CRT and I have good ol' duck hunt for NES and a zapper gun. I actually never had one of these as a kid and YouTube doesn't offer any instructional videos!

Do you just plug in the gun and shoot at the screen, or is there a second attachment like a wii sensor that I need?

  • Nope. Just plug n shoot.
  • The Zapper almost always goes in controller port 2. The only exception I can think of is Chiller using two Zappers.
  • Pretty sure it only works in the player 2 port, also if you have a friend they can control the ducks with the regular controller
  • Man, I can't believe I don't know the certain answer about this, but I could have sworn that as kids my brother and I would just swap out the controller for the gun in SMB/Duck Hunt. Pull the trigger without it facing the screen to cycle through the menus and then point it at the screen when you wanted to select an option. This way, no standard controller was needed.

I don't have an NES handy at the moment so I can't verify. I do recall pointing the gun in the air and pulling the trigger, and then shooting the screen to select. The more I think about, the more I'm confident it works this way.

Cool. I had no idea you could do that.

We just always used a controller in port 1.
