NES carts with LEDs inside

Does anyone know of a tutorial to teach me how to install LEDs inside of a clear NES cart? Typically when I want to know something like this I'll just look at an example and copy what I see but unfortunately the only lit carts I own are the 8-bit X-Mas carts and these do not really provide a good example because of the proprietary board. I essentially just want to know how install a few LEDs into my Sweet Home repro for some added effect. Any advice would certainly be appreciated.

  • Isn't the pin on the far edge a 5v pin? And the one on the other side Ground? I would try that.

That sounds reasonable. I'll try it once my LEDs come in the mail.

slow yr roll, nesdev. it's pretty obvious how it's done: 70% magic, 20% bad math
  • So one thing to keep in mind is that you may have to add a resistor in series. Otherwise you may burn out the LED. Keep in mind most LEDs are 2 or 3V. Look up "LED resistance Calculator". There are online tools for figuring out the correct resistance.

^Yes! Found this out the hard way a long time ago with a wormlight attachment for a GBA. Like an idiot I connected the ends to a 5v USB without any resistors then... poop! Killed it. lol

when you plug it into the Famicom it lights up
  •   I meant inside, wiseguy.

Surely someone here has cracked one open.
  • PM me, it depends on the PCB being used but you can usually go from +5V to ground on the board or the eprom/flash rom.
