Individual parts of CIB Chrono Trigger

Ok, Chrono is definitely a hot item and you can find them frequently for sale and they, of course, go for a few bucks.  However, I'd like to know a general breakdown in value of the individual, unique parts of the CIB set.  That is, how much is each of the following items worth, roughly, from the "good condition" to "mint condition" range?

- Orange Borderd Map/Poster

- Green Bordered Map/Poster

- Registration Card

- Manual (Recent sales are inconsistent and not of better quality.)

Last, if you guys had a couple CIB Chronos to sell, do you think you'd do better to keep the pieces together, or sell the cart/box/manual as one item, and then all of the other pieces as either the posters together and the registration card alone?  I'm not prefering to canablize the Chronos I've recently picked up but this was an investment move so I'd like to make the most I can from moving these.  Thanks for any advisement.

  • I'd say it depends on how long you're willing to wait for sales.

You could probably squeeze out an extra $20 or $30 for the total by selling the pieces individually, but it would sell much, much more quickly together as a fully complete game. I've sold some specific pieces of various games for really surprisingly high prices to a lot of foreign buyers who are already paying a lot for international shipping and don't have any other options to get one.

Not sure what the Chrono Trigger CIB prices are at these days, but a little over a year ago I sold my two different 100% complete NM copies for $450 and $500 in less than a month.

Also keep in mind that if you split them up and one part sells quickly but the other ones won't move at all, you're stuck with one part missing from a 100% game and that's always a pain in the butt.

TLDR; my recommendation is to just sell it all together. It should go quickly, and the potential price difference isn't worth the time and trouble.
  • Well, the thing is, I have a buyer who wants all of the inserts, but not the game, tray or manual. So, I wanted a ball park. I could sell the game/manual/box and do fairly well, but I don't want to do it unless I can get a reasonable markup above the unit as a hold. Say, a total of 15% or so increase.
