Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars DS Lite

Recently won this GTA DS Lite that happens to be the sample model used in preproduction. The released version was done with a red inside and additional Rockstar Logo. Interested to see if anyone may have one of these?

    So Nintendo with Rockstar commissioned a custom airbrush artist to do the work. The artist in which was commissioned I spoke to about the job. He told Nintendo that it would be very difficult to do each one by hand and have them identical. So they used an overlay process to make 20 units of each. The one in which I bought is said to be the first one done to show how the process would look completed. So yes this was done in an auto body shop by directed by Nintendo to do so. It was not the auto body shop saying lets do a custom DS for fun.

    I've never seen one of these before. The whole process orchestrated by Nintendo is quite interesting though. Definitely a nice addition to the rare DS collection.

    The guy who landed the job is actually a airbrush artist and was the reason they went to him. Once they told him how many it was not budget friendly or an effective way to produce 20 of each and have them look alike. Nintendo was happy with a simplified version done without airbrushing each one. Would be hella cool if they had done airbrushing for each instead though. Know the Animal Crossings DS units were airbrushed for a contest.

    Is it the one you bought just a sticker on the cover? because it was a preproduction sample.

    The 20 official rellease were all full paint job custom?
