  • That's so evil and clever to ask fans, that I salute it.

    Nintendo must be pissed.
  • I kind of appreciate the leak of an A/C adapter. At this point I am sitting on so many old cell phone chargers that could be used.
  • Depending on the full line-up, I may be VERY interested in picking this up. I have never owned, nor desired to own, a playstation, so if this contains the right games it could be the perfect little system to forever fill that particular hole in my gaming life!

If this comes with at least one Crash Bandicoot, Abe's odessey, a Tomb Raider and like Spiro or croc or something, then I will absolutely buy this!
  • Man... collector in me feels compelled to buy it but it doesn't seem that attractive at $100 based on the 5 titles they mention here. Part of the beauty of the NES / SNES classic are some titles that are easy to pick up, play and save your progress. FFVII isn't a pick up and play title and the other 4 aren't studs in my eyes.

I wouldn't be surprised if initial hype resell is above $100 but it will probably cool to right around that price when all said and done.
  • Pretty funny to read the comments defending why the controller doesn't have analog sticks. Ironically, if I were to use this in my living room, I'd have to plug it into one of my Xbox's for the USB power
  • That price point is way too high. For $100 I'd absolutely want dual shock. Also would like to see full game list

Well, you know, we're dealing with a normal company here so there might be actual supply   I'm sure people will get their resales in just before Xmas.

Too expensive for me I think on the games listed above unless they really come out with some big titles on the back end of the list. I agree about the pick up and play thing.. might be less interesting. I'm still interested to see it cracked. Also wonder if this will prompt a 64 mini release. 2018 console war.
  • It's a bit higher than I was hoping for, but, I will very likely get it as Playstation is one of my favorite consoles. I've already seen a lot of complaints about the price, no power cord, the controllers, etc., but I'm ok with most of that even if it isn't ideal. I like the games they listed already, and I'm sure there will at least be several others I'll like as well.

Maybe it's a 'cash grab' or copying Nintendo, or whatever bad things people are saying about it - but it's a cool little throwback device that I don't have super high expectations for. I will sell a couple things I have sitting around collecting dust so that I can buy it, and it will be fun to play around with.

I'm pretty excited about this, and I even have most of those games and probably some of the others that will be on it. But I still like it
  • Placed a topic on the PlayStation Age Forum covering this:

If anything I am hoping this Device will offer better Emulation than the PS3 can.
  • Meh. I can't imagine them putting Skull monkeys, or r-type delta, or pink panther, etc. I mean to really make this work and sell a lot of these they would have to go with a few .more obscure things that look and play great by today's standard's before adding in the games that were beloved on the console, the tekken, crash, metal gear, ff7. If they did this right and introduced people to titles they didn't know were on the ps1 they would do well.. I wouldnt buy this, I wouldnt even waste the space under my tv with this.
  • While I own both the NES and SNES Classic, this is the first classic edition that I truly want to own.
  • It looks cool but man $100 USD!? Maybe the games on it will change my mind.

That's the exact opposite of how stuff like this works.  Their target audience is the person who hasn't played PS1 in many years and feels nostalgia for the games they REMEMBER.  The people like you or even me who only want the obscure games make up way to small of a market to turn a profit.
  • The best part about the NES and SNES classic, was the actual value of the 30 individual games made the $60/$80 price a total bargain.

In this case, the 5 PS1 titles announced so far are worth about $40...

This is a hard pass for me unless some of the next 15 games are Castlevanias, uncommon RPGs, RE, etc... I feel like they would have announced those games already if they were going to be included though.
  • Lack of Resident Evil is surprising. But maybe Capcom isn't playing nice.
  • Brilliant! I wonder where they came up with such an original idea? Even the name is inspiring for it's creativity!
  • Lack of Metal Gear, a Resident Evil, a Crash Bandicoot and a Twisted Metal (1/2) makes it a hard pass for me. It's actually quite appalling that FFVII is the only "stud" that make the initial leaked list of 5 titles. Tekken is at least some name recogniztion but Wild Arms, Jumping Flash and Ridge Racer? No way. Gran Turismo should have been on the list over Ridge Racer too.
  • I too am having trouble with the price point, if they released the full list I'm sure that'll push me over the edge to buy.
  • Looks cool, but no Ape Escape blows. I never picked up the NES or Super NES Classic so you can be sure I won't pick this up either.
  • Hopefully they announce some more heavy hitters:

Metal gear Solid, SotN, Resident Evil, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, Parappa, Tony Hawk, Silent Hill, Oddworld, Twisted Metal 2, IQ, Grandia
  • I would be happy with nothing but the awesome 2D side scrollers they made for PS1.

    Added to summary

  • There sure are a lot of people complaining about missing games despite the fact that the game list hasn't been announced yet.....
  • I'm excited to see the other games that will be announced. Also, I LOVE Wild arms, like a lot, so I'm pretty excited about that one. I think Jumping Flash is cool too.

I honestly thought it was a prank this morning because the general presentation was so on point to what Nintendo did.  But after thinking about it, I realized that's pretty much on par for Sony.  Reglardless, I'm getting one.

  • My preorder is confirmed through Gamestop (and Best Buy) Stupid hype. :-). I would really like to avoid any headaches on release day. Done.
  • I want it.

Do you announce A++ titles to build hype or do you announce garbage and save A++ titles for later?  Sure, maybe a couple of good ones crop up but no way that 15 out of 15 are stud titles.

It's just a poorly hyped release that some people are going to rush out and reserve because they fall for the hype.  From a pure value perspective this offers much less value than the NES / SNES systems that were out at lower points.

Right, I get that, but playstation position is different than Nintendo's was in releasing their plug and plays. NES and SNES graphics aged better than the N64 or PS1. Playstation has the playstation network which offer easy access to ps1 titles. Playstation games havent appreciated in value the same as Nintendo. Remastered versions are available for some of the PS1 IP'S. And PS1 graphics are somewhat compatible with modern tv's. Playstation needs a different marketing strategy.

I collect figures and see it mostly as just that. The fact that it plays games is a side bonus that I'll likely not even take advantage of. I'll be more than happy to have a little PlayStation on my PlayStation shelf. The price is a tad much, but I've spent the same on a number of figures, and base my personal value for these things on how much I like the source material.

None of that changes the fact that people are specifically complaining about lack of titles for a system that hasn't released a game list yet.  Most people just enjoy complaining.
