Lol, I call myself "Taiwan PAL gamer" and even I'M rolling my eyes at the inclusion of PAL games here! Even Nintendo, the clown-prince of stupid product decisions, put the 60hz versions of its games on the minis in all regions...
Jesus, Sony, you need to get those classic console blue balls seen to quick before you put someone's eye out! @o@
They could have released a second version with dual shocks and made a bunch of money in another year or two. This thing is probably killing any goodwill they have so that is probably not happening.
This seems like a tough month or two for releases in general. Fallout 76, apparently Battlefield sales are down, now the PS1classics.
I'm done with being excited about this, but I actually like the old digital controller and I don't have a single one that works well. I'm sure I could buy a lot on eBay, but if all I have to do is solder in an old cable into a new controller, I'd actually like to grab up a couple of the controllers if they ever make it to the bargain bin. I know every else is screaming why isn't there dualshock support, but I grew up using that original controller. I'd like a shiny and new one for a change.
Other than that, though, this is just a big disappointment. I tend to hate SONY and have vowed for almost 15 years to never buy a new product from them (and I mostly haven't) but this one really hit me in the feels. It's a shame they botched it. It's the first $100 they would have gotten from me in a loooong time.
On Sunday I just got three of them from Goodwill for $1.21 each-well, two official, one licensed, but the bigger deal was the boxed NES Zapper for $3.13. Awesome! Been a really long time since I’ve seen anything NES-related there.
I know I’ve got more of these controllers so LMK if you want one or two of these and I’ll hook you up at-cost.

I seem to recall reading that the PSX did not have slower games in PAL regions because they didn’t tie the video output frequency to the system speed so I was a bit surprised to hear about the whole Tekken thing.
After the breaking news of using PAL versions this week, I'm now wondering what the Japanese reviewers are saying for the Japanese unit. We already knew that their system had a better game line-up. I know the emulator will be the same, but if all of there games are NTSC/J, are they running at 60hz, or even a tolerable (well, tolerable to me) 30hz?
The $100 pricetag is probably about $30 too high, but the list of games isn't near as bad as everybody's making it out to be.
The problem with the game selection is that there are at least 100 other games that would be better choices than most of the ones they chose. It might be a complete failure but it's like they were aiming for mediocrity, and they hit that mark perfectly. They should have been aiming for a collection of masterpieces and they could have but decided not to for whatever reason.
Hey, Dumbass here checking in. I pre-ordered one and it arrives Monday woooo!
Enjoy it! No doubt it will be hacked and probably as easily modded as the NES/SNES Minis, which means even if you want a mostly pure experience, just dump the PAL roms an load the NTSC versions instead. Boom, problem solved.
If this is possible and the price gets down to below $50, I might get one. I love my SNES Mini. I like the look of this and if it can be hacked/fixed, I could see myself wanting one, but it's going to have to take the fan community stepping up and hacking it, which I have a hunch will be super easy.

This is what I'm banking on too (modding it) - I'm still looking forward to it. The 50hz thing blows me away though if the games really do play like shit - we shall see on Monday!
Lmao same here, got mine but wrapping up 2 classes for school then get to give it a try! Can't wait to play destruction derby, freaking love that game.
Heard on Twitter that you can access a debug menu with all sorts of tasty options if you hook up certain keyboards and hit ESC on startup. Looks like some hardcore hacking options may have just opened up.
I mean it got an overwhelmingly bad reception, and well deserved. We are talking some serious issues with performance that completely ruin any fun to be had. Apparently it isn't even just the PAL 50hz games that are the issue either, but even the NTSC games have stutter, audio issues, and lag and overall all look like a blurry mess.
I have yet to see it in person, but going off of videos that i have watched of it in action, it looks even worse than we expected
Obviously it will be hacked to make it better, but judging its stock performance, i have no idea who gave this the green light to be sold lol

Sony being Sony.
This thing is a time ticking bomb.

But putting 9 50hz PAL games is unforgivable. That is like all 3 strikes at once right there. Especially for Tekken 3.

I heard this system sucks ass. It plays most of the games in Pal 50hrz. Who the hell wants that?
