Apparently it isn't even just the PAL 50hz games that are the issue either, but even the NTSC games have stutter, audio issues, and lag and overall all look like a blurry mess.

I have yet to see it in person, but going off of videos that i have watched of it in action, it looks even worse than we expected :/

Obviously it will be hacked to make it better, but judging its stock performance, i have no idea who gave this the green light to be sold lol

Lol I think I'll just go and get my preorder money back now

    What is that?

Apparently the controller cord is a micro-USB cable, which can be disconnected on the inside.

  • Wonder why they did the controls like that
  • Wow great find. Time to bust it open and play with it now lol.

Indeed. I just seen your comment after posting the link.

  • Goddamn. So it's got all the Emulator goodies but they're just... hidden away. Gimme dem scanlines!

I imagine it's not long until someone finds how to tie ROMs to the UI and we get the hack we need to make it an actually half-decent machine. If you can plug in a keyboard to access this stuff, it's just a matter of time.

Agree. You know the modders/enthusiasts are going to have this thing totally figured out and give us a "How To" here soon.

Can the current games at 50hz be changed to 60hz or will we have to wait for a full hack and just add the US versions ? I'm also wondering if this will make them lag even more then what I heard they do now . Damn GameStop guy just convinced me to pick up my preorder lol . At least I have till January to return it if anything. If I can get the Wu Tang game on there and working perfect I'll be happy
  • I still don't see the appeal to shelling out $100 for a poorly made emulator box...

Dont feel bad. I bought 2. Let's wait this out and see how this news develops and if this functionality can polish a turd of a console. lol

In a way I'm with you on this even though I just got it . Not only is it $100 but now we have to take extra steps and time to basically fix what Sony couldn't do themselves.

But do you have a physical copy so you can listen to the soundtrack in your CD player?

Right. If Sony had actually put in the work to optimize the performance settings for each of the 20 included games, and put together a nice frontend, then mayyyybe it could be worth it.

But they basically took a shit in a box and it's up to the community of customers to make the thing run correctly by going AROUND the stock interface...

Yup exactly to both of you. For all of this money and work, you could just get a Pi. And no this is not the same as the NES and SNES classics and people saying to get a Pi for those. Those were both solid systems right out of the box and a solid purchase for your money. The fact they could be hacked was just a bonus. So i can see choosing those classics over a Pi.

This thing NEEDS to be hacked just to function at a passable level, and uses an open source emulator you can easily download and run on any computer or Pi. For the money just get a Pi and then have the freedom of adding more games, emulators, storage, controllers, etc.

Like anything else, people will hack these and put work into it, just because they can. I just can't see any reason to give Sony money for this thing, unless you want to bring the moral debate in with roms.

  • Ill pick up one of these dumpster fires when they are in a discount bin at Frys for 19.99.

Seeing pics all over social media of stores with stacks of them untouched

It's a shame. There was so much excitement at the announcement due to the potential of this thing. Sony really blew it.

  • lmao damn i think people may be overreacting. It isnt that terrible of a lineup and it IS cheaper than buying the games, and it looks cool with my original cib ps1 on a shelf. heres the most "helpful" review on amazon "What a let down. For the money I would go out and buy a second hand ps1 and a few hundred games. The frame rate is horrible in most of the games and the selection is a let down." I played the PAL games and the framerates only feel a bit off its not unplayable. Only a handful of the games are PAL and Where the hell is this guy buying a few hundred games for so cheap hahaha.

I can understand you may think people are exaggerating, but aren't you kind of doing the same? 9/20 games is a handful? lol That is basically half of the lineup.

And the lineup isn't even the issue anymore, it is the fact it runs like crap in many ways and not just the 50hz games either. This review sums it up pretty nicely of all that is wrong with it performance wise. But of course to each their own, and if you are able to look past its flaws and enjoy it, good for you. I just think people were expecting a lot more out of this thing and are rightfully disappointed.

While it may be cheaper than buying most of the games, you are better off just getting them on the PS store where they actually run correctly and in NTSC format.

  • My unopened classic console collection is growing! I am not a huge fan of any of these consoles but I am fan of first party systems sitting on my shelf brand new. To each their own.

I agree, feels like pitchfork central over here.  If folks don't want it, then don't buy it it's simple or wait for the inevitable price drops.  For us that have bought it it's like we need a different thread to actually talk about it but we know that wouldn't last for long either.  Oh well life goes on.

  • C'mon guys. You all kind of knew this was gonna be a piece of shit when when they announced the $100 price tag.

    Pointing out flaws =\= pitchforks.

Most of the people with negative reactions probably won’t buy it. But that doesnt mean we can’t discuss the undesireable traits about it

  • 100$ for a half decent emulator box with 2 controllers? Ok thats a decent deal.

100$ For the "playstation classic" as a stand alone, "greatest hits" all in one console? HARD PASS.

Maybe at 60-70$ in the state it is released in.

Exactly. This is priced higher than the rest while being a lower quality product. Not much to defend. It may be an alright product but it is not a good value.

Exactly - I don't think anyone is arguing that it's the product of the year or an amazing value.  It is what it is, really cool concept that certainly could have been done better - and I can't argue that $100 feels a bit high for what we get for it, but it certainly could be worse it's got some solid titles and save states.
