Any benefit to Ebay managed payments.

They don't accept paypal so it seems like a waste to switch as you would certainly limit sales.

Yet more sellers are switching.

  • Its a trap. You are barred from accepting paypal. Your sales will plummet.

The benefit is all ebay. None for you. They deposit directly to your bank. No immediate access to funds. There is no upside
  • New sellers are likely being tricked into it as a default setting. Sellers who opted in raised a fit about paypal being banned from them. Been a ton of econmerce controversy/drama over this
  • The switch to what? Not having Paypal?

Paypal has always been people's preferred method, especially for those who don't have or want a bank account, buyers or sellers. I'm sure there's other methods, but I can see this limiting sales.
  • PayPal is just way too convenient plain and simple, I would always want that as an option as a seller or a buyer.
  • Sounds shitty

  • What i want to know is how we will get the information once we are mandated to accept it. The accounting alone is a nightmare. Now have separate ayden fees and paypal fees. Separate transaction logs. Different refund sites. Ebay sucks at so much i dont trust their cell phone mobile site simplicity to give me the detailed information i need. And present it in a way i need

i dont like their leadership and direction/decisions. They are screwing up a good thing to try and justify having a job there.

    I thought so I just wasn't sure.

  • Paypal is convenient for the buyer. When I first started buying things on ebay I had to send money orders which took a good 3-4 of days to get there, then wait a good 3-4 days to get the game. However just like credit cards, it's easy to get carried away and end up spending too much.

When it comes to selling stuff however, Paypal takes about a 4% fee. Doesn't sound like much but if you sell something for $500 you'll only see $480 minus a good $5 to ship it out minus ebay fees. Adds up quick.

    Its 2.9% plus 30 cents

ayden(ebay payment system charges near the same processing fee.
  • Sounds like I'm the only one benefiting from the change. I can finally buy things off of ebay again because of the change.
  • I barely trust paypal with my information.

As a seller, giving personal bank and card data to glitchbay whos been hacked countless times the past couple years sounds fine i guess.

when its required im going to open a new bank account at a random bank and withdraw from it every few days and move it over. Not letting ebay have my main data
  • eBay used to own Paypal. Maybe they are trying to get away from them by offering other services as a screw you to their former company?

They saw another revenue stream and arent thinking about anything but that. Hurting paypal probably hurts ebay at this point. If ebay has shown us anything they are a short term cook the books company. Have been since whitman took them public.

  • So I ran into this for the first time this morning. I wanted to buy a battery. Which I normally would do locally in person, but every store I've been to doesn't carry it. So I turned to eBay. Most of the sellers were on managed payments. I was like wtf is this? Forever I've been doing all my eBay shit through PP now I need to enter credit card? Like a lot of people, I resist change, so I found a seller taking PP. Yet I question what the problem is. More websites with a product to sell (as in almost all) take credit cards directly than take PP. Seems like ebay is cutting out a middle man. Pay directly is a bad thing? ok. I see how it's an issue if you do your entire life through PP, but that's some company store bullshit

Again like a lot of people, I resisted PayPal at first but eventually it was just too convenient as opposed to mailing checks. quest do you not remember in 2004ish when they were fucking over big sellers left and right? Or just not care as that was so long ago.

I mean why did eBay not just take credit cards straight up in the first place? I'm pretty sure I was using credit card on most commerce sites in the early 00s. Funny thing is, I've noticed in the past month or two, more websites that offer direct purchase are now accepting PP. Is that because eBay doesn't own them any more (TIL ITT), so they're seeking more business elsewhere?

Sometimes I use PP on other sites because of oneclick, but if I care about the company, I use my credit card directly because I thought it would be less fees for them. Is that true? I mean PP uses my credit card so that's PP fees on top of CC fees, isn't it?
  • Apparently you dont understand that ive said this is a problem for sellers.

Ebay is barring sellers that opted in from accepting paypal till late next year. Those sellers have seen a huge decline in sales.

As a seller, the accounting is now going to be more difficult. Everything ebay owns turns to shit. They have shitty tech. Their site is glitchy. Bugs every week. You are giving yet another site as a seller your personal bank information. No immediate access to funds. This isnt a win

You also could already accept credit cards as a merchant if you wanted to as a seller.

This isnt direct payment. Ebay still taking near identical cut to paypal.
