  • Did anyone else have trouble with the site this morning? I could put what I wanted in my cart but I couldn't checkout/view my cart. I had to rush and use my phone...thank goodness I left it on...usually I turn it off before I head to bed (which I do as soon as I buy these games at 7 am my time...ugh). I managed to get the game I wanted but...that was odd. Never had an issue before.

It was mentioned on cheap ass gamer forums that the site had an issues processing orders due to the new format  of the site, or something like that.

  • I'm with Gloves on this one. And to add to his points, I don't think the veneer has really rubbed off of LRG games to show that every game won't hold it's value. Even the games that people don't rush out to buy generally stick at their $25-$30 purchase price. I think the problem will come when people really start deciding which games they want to play. If LRG at the end of all this had a solid ratio of great/good games to boring games I could see many people going for full collections, but I don't think that is going to happen. Their other problem is that they are trying to shoot the moon: weekly releases, Best Buy release, re-physucal releases. I personally think they're diluting their brand and it's not going to hold.

I mean they are re-releasing New and Tasty. Why? That is a collectors release that is it. It will look nice next to the other one they released on the ps3 and then when you go to play it on a modern tv it won't look as good without an upscaler. That is why they released it on the ps4. This is getting silly.
  • I'm torn on this one.

Psychonauts is cool but this PS4 version is an uprezzed $10 PS2 Classics game right? Meh. You can get the PC version physically for less than $20 if you want the good version, but I get some people are only going to collect console games. If the Xbox version is compatible with Xbox One BC, I'd still bet that's the version to have.

I have been wanting to pick this up on the xbox and just haven't gotten to it. Having a release on the PS4 is tempting because I have a ps4 collection and I like trophys.

I think your right though, I'm going to stick with the xbox version.

After shipping and sales tax it would be like $37 or $38. I could get the xbox version and the digital download maybe if I want the trophys for the same price or less.

Like come ON! How the hell do the Psychonauts devs need help with a physical release? Wasn't that the point of this whole thing? Getting physical copies of indy games that otherwise would have no chance?

Psychonauts was released physical on PS2 like a normal fuckin' game. There was a time when you would consider LRG releasing a game as a blessing but now it's like... Big ol' fuckin' companies are in on it. Oddworld, etc., same deal.

I look forward to the LRG release of fuckin' Star Wars Battlefront 3 or some shit.

    Fuckin' PHSYCHONAUTS come ON.

Alright, alright, I'm seeing straight again. Thank you guys.

I would take Mercenary Kings on the PS4, Contra Rebirth, or if they really had some juevos r-type leo.

Not nearly as bad as selling Jak and Daxter as 3 separate releases when they had a trilogy for the price of one of them on the PS3

I don't hate that they do this, as it helps them gain exposure and surely nets them a profit, but I don't support it either

I do hate it. I really liked the idea of LRG being relatively exclusive, low number releases of games that would only actually sell in low numbers; indy games people maybe never heard of.

People HAVE PLAYED Jak & Daxter, and PLENTY. The ONLY people this could possibly appeal to are literally collectors and resellers. And most of them are probably buying it begrudgingly. Plenty of them (MrWunderful comes to mind as an example) are straight up getting out of the LRG game.

It sucks man. We could be getting cool titles that we've not played before. But we get fuckin Jax & Daxter and Abe's Odyssey and fuckin Psychonauts.

If I seem upset it's cuz I kinda am. I was legit excited when LRG started out. Now it just pissed me off half the time. Still waiting on my copy of Celeste, too. FRICK.
  • I think a good compromise would be to still release these bigger name titles but not make them part of the numbered set, similar to their deal with SRG.

The more money they make on these big name releases, the bigger budget they have to take risks on the smaller titles
  • I think I read some where they are going to announce 70 upcoming releases. That is kind of ridiculous.
  • I'm not sure why 70 releases is ridiculous. I hope they turn every single digital only game into a physical release.

I don't think they have 70 digital only games lined up. At the rate they release games they cannot keep up with digital only releaes. They have been tssting the waters with ps2, ps3, and xbox games and are likely to release even more. I don't consider those hd remakes digital only games.

Besides that can you name 20 digital only games that are worth playing let alone 70?

Regardless of the system, the games they have been releasing have been digital only, at least up to the point where the agreement was made with the game developer.  There have been a few instances where another publisher has also printed the game, but LRG has said they will never prevent a game developer from publishing with another compmany if they choose.

Let's be honest, collectors are and have always been LRG's target demographic. Unless you fall into the group of collectors that "need" everything, then you can easily just not buy them. Just buy the titles you want. It's not like they've stopped doing smaller indie games.

Also Oddworld was like the third title they released so this isn't some new trend.

    1. Blaster Master Zero
    2. Blaster Master Zero 2
    3. Double Dragon IV
    4. 20XX
    5. Mighty Gunvolt Burst
    6. The Bug Butcher
    7. Yono And The Celestial Elephants
    8. Blossom Tales
    9. VS. Arcade Super Mario Bros.
    10. The Messenger (physical not out yet)
    11. Shovel Knight (physical not out yet)
    12. Unravel Two (physical only in UK)
    13. Hollow Knight (physical just shipping now)

    I guess I can't.
  • Yes, they are "digital only" games. Although technically, if they physically release something and then release it on a second console a year later, that game is not digital only. The game already has a physical version. Look at this week,

    -Dragons Lair

    -Psychonauts

    -Momodora

    -Airheart

One game out of four that doesn't have a version on another console.

You're other point is inaccurate though they reprint stuff that has already been done regularly, Battle Garegga was the most recent, which I should say is down to $24.99 this week on play asia if anyone needs it.

The point I am trying to make is that they are not cool anymore and I wouldn't play the majority of their releases if you gave them to me.

Yeah I stopped buying all the LRG releases a while ago because of the onslaught of trash that was coming out. I still pick up a release here or there if I am going to play it (mostly metroidvania ish stuff) but glad I got out.

The evil filthy reseller in me is happy that I netted well over 1500$ flipping them though.

Them releasing psychonauts is ludicrous (even though its outstanding game)

I would add Resogun Contra Rebirth Gradius Rebirth

Contra Rebirth and Gradius Rebirth from the Wii Shop? Are those on Switch? If we're talking Wii Shop then I would add:

    - Ocarina Of Time Master Quest

    - Bubble Bobble +

    - Mega Man 9

    - Mega Man 10

    LRG has never reprinted anything.

I don't know if Ocarina of Time would count, wasn't that on the Gamecube?

Also, I would bet $50 that LRG announces the release of Beyond Good and Evil.

I think that's kind of the catch 22. We all want these indie games that are amazing and digital exclusive... but how many actually exist that are worth owning? A lot of the hit indie titles are already getting physical releases now, and quite a few companies doing small print runs have popped up, so the pool of games to draw from is getting even smaller.

They're a business, and it seems like the two guys in charge do this full time (and also have employees to support now). They need to keep titles coming out, they can't afford to just release games sporadically. HD rereleases of older games will pull in a lot of sales/attention so it makes complete sense for them to do that, and then we get the cool indie games like Golf Story, Celeste and Thimbleweed Park when they're available. Also on a personal note I haven't played a bunch of the rereleases because I was mainly a Nintendo gamer for most of my life, so I don't have any issue with these games being rereleased.

At this point, with nearly 300 PS4/Vita games and dozens of Switch games, I can't imagine going for a full LRG set unless you are a full system set collector, and if you're doing that you're gonna be wasting money on a lot worse titles than what LRG is pushing out. Personally I don't care for/buy 75% of what they release, but I'm glad that a lot of the games are getting physical releases, even if they are $5 digital games that I have no interest in. 70 titles sounds like a lot, but it's less than 1.5 games/week, and it seems like they are usually releasing 1-3 games a week.
  • I guess my question would be, why complain? If they release a game you don't like, don't buy it. I've never seen so much hate for a company that's done more to keep physical video games alive more than any other company in recent memory.
  • Yes, they are a business, they have to release mediocre titles along with good tiltles to have a successful business, but at the end of the day they get to decide the size of the company. They chose to have weekly releases. It really feels like someone is preying on collectors/gamers instead of being part of the community.

The releases from older consoles or to multiple consoles are a double edged sword. They can serve to bring new gamers to older consoles or they can cannabalize the original consoles library. I would argue that so much of the PS2 library has already been added to the PS3 and the xbox had a relatively small set of exclusives theres only a little bit of meat on the bones at this point. Some people would say that it doesn't matter if they re-release games on a new console or games that another company like Play Asia has already released, but that is kind of a contradiction. If LRG is serving collectors why are they diminishing the diversity between consoles and generations and thus collectability.
  • I mean, I'd like releases of everything digital-only from Okami, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 4, and Grandia I + II, to indies like Wargroove, Hyper Light Drifter, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Castle Crashers, Into the Breach, and on and on.

And when LRG releases any of those I'm snatching it up. If it's something else I'm not interested in I won't. Win-win.
  • Looks like the market agrees for the most part. I don't keep on top of how fast all of these CEs sell out but Psychonauts is a super popular game and the 2500 CEs haven't sold out yet. I think the actual feelies and goodies in the $70 box are pretty weak and it's not very attractive which probably contributes too.
