Send me a reference for this. I need to do the research

    Mine:

The email of authenticity I got from the previous owner that worked on the game:

"I joined the Timewalk team of designers about mid 2012. I just checked my back emails to check, roughly in May of that year. I designed their Rendering Ranger boxart...which was used without me finalizing it! Lol oops. I designed the manual and poster for Mystic Quest Reborn. And yes, I designed the box and poster for the silver DuckTales inhouse boxset we made in celebration for securing a deal with Capcom for their Gold Press set. It was a ragtag kind of operation, but our passion for video games was the bond that we all shared. It was a great creatively inspiring thing to be a part of. Many of the earlier designs weren't that great, manuals in particular, but that's why Spencer was snagging all these designers. We had a private forum where we spoke wth each other about future possibilities, ideas, critiques on our work as we went. We were redesigning the earlier stuff too, if my recollection is correct, to replace the first batch of work Spencer had.

It's a shame that we closed when we did as we were planning on doing a bunch of other titles, many of which I was working on, like a Super Mario and some Super Metroid hacks. But it was for the best because I am very happy with my current set up.

Thanks for your interest in the history of these things. Im so happy to know someone appreciates it! It's such a fun, community and a fun sort of underground scene. Maybe it's not underground as much anymore but regardless, I appreciate your appreciation of the history behind these things.

As for you logging who owned that silver DuckTales, put it down as AdvancedPillow. I was going by that name in Timewalk so it's official, as I was the first owner. I dont know if anyone else from Timewalk has sold them but we definitely all got one. I'm not exactly sure anymore how many of us there were. But definitely no more than 10.

    So long, my friend.

Please clarify something for me.. how does iam8bit tie into this? The article that I read about it says they are made by iam8bit, but I also hear somehow Timewalk was involved. Your post further supports this claim. We need to understand the relationship here.

Also, as cool as I think thie silver cart is, I question whether it belongs on this list. The  main theme of this thread is "authorized/licensed" by the IP holder. I can see how Capcom wouldn't make a big deal out of them making a few extra special carts for the team that worked on them, but in the name of objectivity, the question is - did Capcom specifically order them to make those silver carts, or at least did the verbiage of the contract provide enough flexibility to allow them to make those. The answer would be in the contract agreement from Capcom.

I will add them as a sidenote to the Ducktales Gold entry, but for them to get their own separate entry, I think we need proof that they licensed or authorized

Huh, I think mine are sealed and makes me wonder if they're these silver ones. And I wonder if I passed on Sweet Home because I thought I already had it. Doh!

I think the Sweet Home has been brought up before, but it's the only one I think I haven't personally seen. If someone out there has it...
  • Re: how does iam8bit tie into this?

Is this like the mega Man LE? I think on that iam8bit did the sale(contract and distribution?) but the manufacturing was infinite NES lives (and maybe even a third party for box/manual/art?)
  • Added Metal Storm from retro-bit.

    Anything new out there?

After talking with Frank at MAG, I have both decided to do another Aftermarket panel and will be using the term "Reissue" for these types of releases from here on out. Reissues will be a significant portion of the talk, as in the first panel I gave this area of the Aftermarket scene was just starting and I said to be on the look out for more releases like Sunday Funday from INL in the future.

When is your next panel? When you present can you share the video??

  • I also think the term reissue makes the most sense
  • Giving my second panel on Aftermarket Games at MGC this Saturday at 6PM. I just added "Reissues" to my list of definitions at the beginning. It's official.
