I rewatched Christmas Vacation on the ol' VHS again the other night, and man....with every year that passes I grow less and less fond of this movie in contrast to the original National Lampoon's Vacation. And I really LOVED this one as a kid, and still want to love it now.... I mentioned this same thing last year, but this movie just falls so short of the brilliance of the original. Watching it the other night, I never noticed how many campy, cartoony, zany sound effects and music tracks are in this movie....the sound effects when Clark unbundles the tree for instance. It's clearly made for a younger, more broad audience, lots of slapstick and physical gags, explosions left and right, and that's fine, but the original Vacation did not hold back (just compare Clark's meltdowns in both films) and it felt far more true to life, and was just a perfectly crafted story from start to finish. You take the original R rated film, and then compare it to a PG-13 Christmas film...bah....I really don't mean to hate! Because it still has like 20 brilliant scenes in it, I love the parts in Christmas Vacation where the humor is more subtle (The entire scene where Clark gives his boss the gift in his office is wonderful) but for me, if you're talking what movie is the BEST
I still stand by Home Alone 1&2. They aren't some spinoff like Christmas Vacation, the soundtrack is perfect (the movie would not be the same without that music) and the casting was perfect. Macaulay Culkin was perfect. All the scenes that were cut out were done so correctly....the theatrical cuts of those movies are just masterpieces to me....Everything that happens in those two movies is perfect. Iconic. They'll never be surpassed in my eyes.

This.
I know Die Hard 1 is a better movie but I love Die Hard 2 more and I always make it a point to watch it at Xmas time.

Heck yeah man, it's even debatably more 'Christmas-y' than the first since it actually has friggen' snow!

Even without the MST3K guys cracking on it, SCCTM is glorious to behold. It's like every bad movie cliche every single moment.
bad side of me likes the original Silent Night Deadly night.
Die Hard
The Grinch
Jingle All The Way

Christmas story has been played to death and I can't watch more than 10 minutes without turning it off.
Die hard, Elf, National Lampoons, and the original animated Grinch are all on the Xmas watch list.

"Christmas Vacation" would be my favourite. Followed pretty closely by "Home Alone."
I agree
